What is middle lobe syndrome

Middle lobe syndrome is a lung disease. Lungs are the breathing machine of human beings, so they must be kept healthy at all times. Many reasons in life can cause lung diseases, such as bad air, smoking, second-hand smoke, and some other occupational diseases. Lungs are very important organs in the human body, so we must ensure that they are healthy. So what kind of lung disease is this?

Middle lung lobe syndrome, also known as Brock syndrome or Graham-Burford-Mayer syndrome, refers to the compression and obstruction of the bronchus by enlarged extrabronchial lymph nodes, which causes atelectasis of the right middle lobe (or left lingular lobe), shrinkage of the lung lobe, or inflammatory consolidation. Contractile atelectasis of the middle lobe caused by simple inflammation does not belong to this syndrome.

Symptoms may include recurrent coughing and expectoration, sometimes accompanied by hemoptysis or fever, and moist rales may be heard in the lungs.

Rales are additional sounds other than breath sounds, caused by lesions such as partial obstruction of the tracheal and bronchial lumen. Depending on the nature of the sound, they can be divided into dry rales and wet rales. Dry rales are generally divided into snoring sounds and whistle sounds. The sounds of wet rales can be coarse, medium, or fine. The nature of crackling sounds and fine wet rales is very similar.

The causes of this syndrome are generally: compression by nonspecific inflammation or tuberculous lymphadenopathy, distal occlusion caused by bronchiectasis, obstruction by mucus, pus plugs or foreign bodies, stenosis or occlusion of the lumen due to bronchial tuberculosis or nonspecific inflammation, obstruction of the middle lobe bronchus by bronchial cancer or benign tumors, and compression by primary or metastatic lymphoma.

Targeted treatment should be given according to different causes, and those caused by tumors should be surgically removed at an early stage. If it is tuberculosis or inflammation, anti-tuberculosis or anti-infection treatment should be given. Flushing through a fiberbronchoscope can relieve blockages caused by mucus and pus plugs and play a therapeutic role.

If you encounter this kind of illness, you must first actively cooperate with the treatment, receive timely treatment, and recover effectively according to the doctor's instructions. You must pay attention to your diet in daily life, try not to live in places with bad air, and don't be exposed to smoke. Go to the hospital for regular check-ups, don't ignore it, and exercise more, which will better prevent this disease from causing harm to your body.
