Is dialysis useful for patients with uremia?

I believe everyone is familiar with uremia. It is relatively common and is a type of kidney disease. People with uremia are unable to urinate normally. External force is needed to expel waste from the body. When I go to the hospital, I often hear the doctor say that the patient needs to undergo dialysis. Dialysis needs to be done continuously, and for many families, it is a considerable financial burden. So is dialysis useful?

Currently, the most effective treatments for patients with uremia are dialysis and transplantation. How often does uremia require dialysis? Hemodialysis is an immediate treatment method to relieve uremia crisis. Are there any other treatments for uremia besides dialysis? Since hemodialysis treatment has good short-term effects, many people want to know how long hemodialysis can sustain life. In fact, this question varies from person to person! Some may be long or short, as long as several decades, and some as short as two or three years.

How often should dialysis be performed for patients with uremia? Although hemodialysis is a treatment method for patients with uremia, it cannot fundamentally help patients with uremia recover. It is only a temporary replacement for the kidneys to perform the filtration function.

Hemodialysis is a common method used by Western medicine to treat uremia. It uses a machine to replace the human kidneys to eliminate metabolic waste from the body. Many patients have such doubts. Uremia is caused by the inability of the kidneys to eliminate toxins from the body. So, now that there are machines to replace the kidney function, does it mean that if dialysis is maintained, uremia is equivalent to being cured?

Although hemodialysis performs outstandingly in stabilizing the condition, we generally do not recommend dialysis when treating uremia because it also has certain risks.

1. Dialysis will bring a series of complications;

2. Dialysis can easily cause the disease to recur, and repeated recurrences can make the disease worse;

3. At this time, many patients will choose continuous dialysis, but continuous dialysis faces a cost issue: continuous dialysis will cause the kidneys to gradually atrophy and eventually become completely necrotic. From the above we can see, how long can hemodialysis sustain life? Hemodialysis only slows down the progression of the disease and cannot play a therapeutic role. It is wrong to rely on long-term hemodialysis to cure uremia. To fundamentally treat uremia, it is necessary to control kidney deterioration, repair damaged kidney intrinsic cells, and correct the ischemic and hypoxic state by improving renal microcirculation disorders, so that the condition can be truly improved. As for the specific treatment method, it needs to be determined based on the patient's specific situation.

Patients need to pay special attention to their diet and should not touch any seafood such as kelp and sea cucumber. You cannot eat beans, and you cannot eat all fruits. For example, you can only eat one-third of an apple or pear a day. Eat more lean meat and avoid fatty meat. Eat more green vegetables, but you need to remove the potassium in them by boiling them in water for a few minutes.
