What should I do if I have a decrease in platelets?

Nowadays, thrombocytopenia has become a relatively common disease, which is a disease that affects the health of human blood. Thrombocytopenia is very harmful to the human body. If it is not treated in time, it is likely to lead to multiple complications, which will affect the patient's life and health. So, what should we do if we have thrombocytopenia? Let me tell you about it now.

The "platelets" in human blood contain about 100,000 to 300,000 platelets per cubic millimeter of blood in a normal person. Their average lifespan is 8 to 12 days. If the platelet count result is lower than the lower limit of the reference value due to various reasons, it is called thrombocytopenia. If thrombocytopenia is severe, it can cause a series of symptoms, such as nose bleeding, bleeding gums, bleeding oral mucosa, gastrointestinal bleeding, heavy menstrual bleeding, hematuria, etc. Bleeding spots or bruises of varying sizes may appear on the skin. This disease is called "thrombocytopenic purpura" in medicine. As we all know, in a normal person's blood, the number of platelets per cubic millimeter remains at around 100,000 to 300,000. If a person's platelet count falls below 100,000 per cubic millimeter of blood, they may have a condition called thrombocytopenia.

1. Psychological treatment:

Some patients with thrombocytopenia will become very depressed and anxious when they learn that their condition requires long-term treatment and recuperation. However, this negative emotion will seriously affect the patient's recovery from the disease, so in order to help patients cure the disease faster, it is necessary to keep a happy mood.

2. General treatment:

Acute patients mainly experience heavy bleeding within 1 to 2 weeks of onset. Therefore, in the early stage of the disease, they should reduce activities and avoid trauma, especially head trauma. Severe patients should rest in bed, and actively prevent and control infection. Give adequate fluids and easily digestible food to avoid damage to the luminal mucosa.

3. Transfusion of fresh blood or platelets:

Treatment for thrombocytopenia should be chosen with caution and is only used as an emergency treatment for severe bleeding. Because of the presence of antiplatelet antibodies in the blood of thrombocytopenic patients, the transfused platelets can be quickly destroyed and have a short lifespan. Therefore, blood or platelet transfusions cannot effectively increase the platelet count.

4. According to the actual condition:

Traditional Chinese medicine treats diseases mainly based on macroscopic syndrome differentiation, while modern medicine diagnoses and treats diseases mainly based on microscopic examination. Each has its strengths and weaknesses. Combining syndrome differentiation with disease differentiation can complement each other's strengths and overcome their weaknesses. Syndrome differentiation and treatment of thrombocytopenia, regardless of the type, can be treated with drugs that increase platelet count, which can achieve good results. For example, the Selaginella purpura recipe uses the method of invigorating qi and nourishing blood, and is taken orally after decocting in water. It is safe and reliable for treating thrombocytopenic purpura.

Patients with thrombocytopenia should pay more attention to their diet and eat more high-protein foods, such as milk, lean meat, beans, etc. It is appropriate to eat vegetables and fruits that are cool in nature and can stop bleeding, such as pears, lotus roots, fungus, dates, etc., which can all stop bleeding. They should also pay more attention to rest and it is best not to get injured, otherwise it will be detrimental to their condition.
