What to do if the soft tissue of the neck is injured

Many people have experienced soft tissue injuries in their neck. Usually, this is because of sprains, sudden turning of the head, or excessive side bending of the neck due to carrying heavy objects, which leads to injuries to the soft tissues of the neck, such as the muscles, fascia, and ligaments. Once the soft tissue of the neck is injured, the patient will feel severe pain in the neck, but many patients do not know how to treat soft tissue injuries of the neck. Now let the editor tell you how to treat soft tissue injuries of the neck.

Acute soft tissue injuries of the neck can generally be treated with traditional Chinese medicine techniques. Better results can be achieved by adopting local massage techniques such as kneading, pressing, pushing, and rubbing to relax muscles and relieve spasms. Basic techniques include:

1. Point nucleus positioning: The operator presses the Jianjing and Tianding points with the thumb for about 2 minutes each to achieve local analgesia;

2. Muscle lifting: The operator places the thumb, index finger, middle finger and ring finger in a direction perpendicular to the muscle fibers, pinches the muscle belly and lifts it forcefully 1 to 2 times. The lifting parts include the sternocleidomastoid muscle, trapezius muscle, levator scapulae muscle, etc.

3. Press and rub the painful points: There are usually cord-like or lump-like objects at the painful points. If the pain point is small, you can massage it with the tip of your thumb. When the pain point is large, you can massage it with the base of your palm;

4. Longitudinal stretching of muscle fibers: In order to stretch the trapezius muscle or sternocleidomastoid muscle, the surgeon can fix the patient's affected shoulder and use the other hand to push the patient's head to the opposite side to stretch the muscle fibers and relieve muscle spasms.

In addition to traditional Chinese medicine manipulation, acute soft tissue injuries of the neck can also be treated with medication, physical therapy, acupuncture, and blockade. There are two main types of drug therapy: oral and topical. Commonly used oral medications include ubukfen, indomethacin, etc.; commonly used external medications include health preservation and bone vitality, etc. Physical therapy mainly uses thermal therapy, such as ultrashort wave, infrared and so on. Acupuncture can generally be used on the stiff neck, Houxi, Fengchi, Xuanzhong, Dazhui and Tianzhu points. The Luozhen point is located at the junction of the upper and middle 1/3 of the posterior edge of the sternocleidomastoid muscle. Insert the needle vertically 1 to 1.5 inches. Blockade therapy generally uses 10 ml to 15 ml of 1% procaine, or adds methylprednisolone ester to block the pain point, and injects once every 5 days, for a total of 2-3 times.

After soft tissue injury in the neck, in addition to taking the above-mentioned treatment methods, the patient should also pay attention to resting more to avoid further injury to the neck. In addition, in daily life we should also pay more attention to exercising the neck muscles to increase the strength and elasticity of the neck muscles and ensure the health and safety of the neck.
