What are the causes of concussion?

In our daily lives, we encounter many problems of disease because we will inevitably get sick when we eat grains. However, the most serious of all diseases are those related to the brain, because our human actions and language are controlled by the brain. If there is a problem with the brain, the whole person will not be able to control his or her normal life. Concussion is a disease that we are all familiar with. This disease seriously affects our lives and causes great damage to the brain. We need to prevent it, but what are the causes of concussion?

In the past, it has been believed that concussion is merely a temporary dysfunction of the central nervous system, with no visible organic damage. No lesions were found in gross anatomy or pathological histology. The transient brain function inhibition manifested may be related to factors such as molecular disorders of brain cells, nerve conduction blocks, cerebral blood circulation regulation disorders, damage to interneurons, and cerebrospinal fluid shock waves within the midline ventricles caused by violence.

In modern times, according to the electrophysiological research of the nervous system, it is believed that damage to the reticular formation of the brainstem, which affects the function of the ascending activation system, is an important factor causing disorders of consciousness. However, these theories cannot satisfactorily explain all the phenomena of concussion. For example, there have been cases of death due to concussion, chronic brain atrophy and even dementia in professional boxers, and there have been reports of mild brain disorders in amateur boxers.

The mechanism of concussion injury is still unclear. The existing theories cannot fully explain all the problems related to concussion. There are many different explanations for the transient disturbance of consciousness after concussion. It may be related to factors such as cerebral blood circulation disorder caused by violence, cerebrospinal fluid impact in the ventricular system, damage to brain interneurons and abnormal discharge caused by physiological and metabolic disorders of brain cells. In recent years, it is believed that damage to the ascending activation system of the brainstem reticular formation is the key factor causing loss of consciousness. The basis is:

1. All of the above factors can cause direct and indirect damage to the brainstem.

2. In animal experiments on concussion, changes in mitochondria, Nissl bodies, and chromosomes were found in the medulla oblongata, some of which were accompanied by lysosomal membrane rupture.

3. In biochemical studies, the concentrations of acetylcholine and potassium ions were increased in the cerebrospinal fluid of patients with concussion. The increased concentrations of these two substances cause conduction block in neuronal synapses, so that the reticular formation of the brainstem cannot maintain the person's wakefulness and consciousness disorder occurs.

In the above content, we have learned the causes of concussion. In some cases, it is caused by an impact on the brain or a lack of certain elements in the body. Therefore, we need to pay attention to our living habits and our behavior in our daily lives. Prevent accidents, ensure the normal use of the brain, do not stay up late often, and do not have an irregular lifestyle.
