What to do if you have burning pain when urinating

Some people find that they have a burning sensation when they urinate, and in severe cases it feels like a knife cutting their urethra. Some patients think it is normal and do not pay much attention to it. The urethra is an important excretory organ in the human body. Once infected, it can cause serious harm to the person. When we feel pain when urinating, we must pay attention and seek timely treatment. Now let us understand what are the causes of burning pain during urination.

1. Urinary tract obstruction and urination disorders: If the urinary tract is obstructed or urination is difficult, the urine will lose its flushing function and the residual urine will become a good culture medium for bacterial growth.

2. Intrinsic factors: These refer to the intrinsic factors of the bladder, such as bladder stones, foreign bodies, tumors and indwelling catheters, which destroy the defense ability of the bladder membrane.

3. Inducing factors: All factors that can destroy the normal antibacterial ability of the bladder mucosa, change the normal tissue structure of the bladder wall, and are suitable for bacterial retention, growth and reproduction can induce the occurrence of cystitis.

4. Damage to the nervous system: If you have a urinary tract infection, bacteria may enter the bladder when using instruments to examine or treat the urethra. Descending infection refers to cystitis secondary to kidney infection. Bladder infection can be caused by infection of adjacent organs through lymphatic spread or direct extension.

5. Urethritis: Urethritis refers to the invasion of the urethra by bacteria, diseases/viruses and other pathogens, causing inflammation, which in turn stimulates the urethra and affects urination. It is the main cause of painful urination. When male patients are in the acute stage of urethritis, they will also have purulent secretions. A smear of the secretions or a urine bacterial culture can be done to confirm which pathogen is causing the disease.

6. Cystitis: Cystitis is an inflammation that occurs in the bladder area. Most cases are caused by urethral infection that retrogrades to the bladder. Therefore, cystitis is often accompanied by chronic urethritis. When urinating, the bacteria-laden urine in the bladder stimulates the urethra, causing a noticeable burning sensation, pain during urination, lower abdominal pain at the end of urination, turbid urine, and sometimes hematuria.

There are several possibilities for burning pain during urination, so if you feel discomfort during urination, you should seek timely treatment. In addition, in daily life, we should also pay attention to drinking water to reduce the concentration of urine; we should not hold urine, otherwise it is easy to cause urinary tract infection; the most important thing is to keep it clean and reduce bacterial infection. Finally, I hope everyone is in good health.
