What are the prescriptions for treating high blood pressure?

Hypertension is one of the most common diseases nowadays. This disease not only directly endangers the health of patients, but also causes many diseases, such as coronary heart disease, cerebral thrombosis, etc., which are very serious diseases. The disease is manifested by dizziness, headache, and increased arterial blood pressure. Obese people are more likely to suffer from this disease. Now the whole world is beginning to pay attention to hypertension, so what are the prescriptions for treating this disease?

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that the occurrence of this disease is due to the imbalance of yin and yang. Simply put, it can be divided into two syndrome types: deficiency syndrome and excess syndrome. If the patient presents with dizziness, headache, tinnitus, flushed face, irritability, insomnia, yellow urine, dry stool, and stringy or slippery pulse, it is a positive sign. Traditional Chinese medicine calls this rising liver fire or hyperactivity of liver yang. As the disease progresses, due to the prolonged hyperactivity of liver yang, the liver and kidney yin and blood are damaged. Patients may experience symptoms such as dizziness, aggravation after fatigue, dry mouth, blurred vision, soreness of waist and knees, or numbness of limbs, thin yellow tongue coating with little fluid, and a stringy or fine pulse, which is a syndrome of both deficiency and excess. Traditional Chinese medicine calls it liver and kidney yin deficiency and liver yang hyperactivity. In the later stages of the disease, Yin is damaged and Yang is weakened. Patients may experience symptoms such as dizziness, mental depression, soreness of waist and knees, spermatorrhea, loose teeth, white tongue coating or thick and turbid tongue root, and weak pulse, which are all deficiency symptoms. Traditional Chinese medicine calls this deficiency of both Yin and Yang.

The basic principle of TCM treatment of this disease is to tonify the deficiency and eliminate the excess, and to coordinate yin and yang. According to the principles of TCM's syndrome differentiation and treatment, different treatment methods are used for different syndromes. If the syndrome is caused by rising liver fire, the treatment should be to clear the liver and purge fire. Commonly used medicines include: chrysanthemum, selfheal, scutellaria, moutan bark, gentian, etc. If the syndrome is characterized by hyperactivity of liver yang, the treatment should be to calm the liver and suppress yang. Commonly used medicines include: Uncaria rhynchophylla, Gastrodia elata, Lophatherum gracile, Tribulus terrestris, etc. For those with obvious symptoms, it is appropriate to use medicines with calming and suppressing yang effects: such as raw cassia seed, raw dragon bone, raw oyster, magnetite, mother of pearl, etc. For patients with mixed symptoms of liver-kidney yin deficiency and liver-yang hyperactivity, the above-mentioned Chinese herbal medicines with the effect of calming the liver and suppressing yang are often used together with Chinese herbal medicines with the effect of nourishing the kidney and liver. Drugs that have the effect of nourishing yin and liver include white peony root, raw rehmannia, Ligustrum lucidum, Polygonum multiflorum, wolfberry, mistletoe, Achyranthes bidentata, etc.

Chinese patent medicine has good curative effect in treating this disease and is easy to take. Commonly used ones include Yufeng Ningxin Tablets, Niuhuang Jiangya Pills, Tianma Uncaria Granules, Yangxue Qingnao Granules, Naoliqing Pills, and Annao Pills, etc. Among them, Yufeng Ningxin Tablets and Niuhuang Jiangya Pills can clear and calm the liver, have a mild effect, definite efficacy, and are inexpensive; Tianma Uncaria Granules can calm the liver and suppress yang, as well as clear away heat and calm the nerves, and are used for those suffering from dizziness and insomnia; Songling Xuemaikang Capsules and Quan Tianma Capsules can calm the liver and suppress yang, promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis, and are used for those with hypertension accompanied by increased blood lipids and numbness of limbs; Yangxueshengnao Granules can nourish blood and calm the liver, and are used for those with blood deficiency, hyperactivity of the liver and obvious headache; Naoliqing Pills and Annao Pills can calm the liver and suppress yang, as well as wake up the brain. Those with insufficient yin blood and hyperactivity of liver yang can take Chinese patent medicines such as Liuwei Dihuang Pills, Qiju Dihuang Pills, and Zhibai Dihuang Pills that have the effect of nourishing the kidneys and liver. Those with both yin and yang deficiency should supplement both yin and yang, and can be treated with Jinkui Shenqi Pills, Guifu Dihuang Capsules, etc. These Chinese patent medicines are included in the national basic medical insurance catalogue. In addition, other medicines included in the national (first batch) over-the-counter drug catalogue include Naoliqing Pills, Liuwei Dihuang Pills, Zhibai Dihuang Pills, and Guifu Dihuang Pills.

Patients should pay more attention to controlling their emotions and not get too excited. If they are overweight, they should lose weight and control their condition. Although it is important to be able to improve the condition, it still cannot completely replace Western medicine. Therefore, if the patient's symptoms are particularly obvious, or the illness has lasted for a long time, you should pay attention. It is best to combine Chinese and Western medicine for treatment.
