What should I pay attention to with high concentration of potassium chloride

High-concentration potassium chloride is very effective in treating diseases, so many patients will choose it when they get sick. However, its side effects are relatively large. If you are not careful when taking it, it will have a great impact on the patient's body. Only by understanding its precautions can we use the drug more safely. So, what should we pay attention to when using high-concentration potassium chloride?

(1) Use with caution in the following situations: ① Acute dehydration, which can cause decreased urine volume and urinary K+ excretion in severe cases; ② Familial periodic paralysis. Hypokalemic paralysis should be supplemented with potassium, but it is necessary to distinguish between hyperkalemic and normal periodic paralysis; ③ Chronic or severe diarrhea can cause hypokalemia, but it can also cause dehydration and hyponatremia, leading to prerenal oliguria; ④ Conduction block arrhythmias, especially when digitalis drugs are used; ⑤ Extensive burns, muscle trauma, severe infection, 24 hours after major surgery, and severe hemolysis. The above situations themselves can cause hyperkalemia; ⑥ Adrenal dysregulation syndrome with insufficient secretion of mineralocorticoids; ⑦ Patients receiving potassium-sparing diuretics.

(2) The following follow-up examinations are required during medication: ① serum potassium; ② electrocardiogram; ③ serum magnesium, sodium, and calcium; ④ acid-base balance index; renal function and urine volume;

(3) Ordinary tablets and sugar-coated tablets have a strong irritating effect on the gastrointestinal tract, so it is best to dissolve them into a solution before taking them.

Contraindications

(1) Patients with hyperkalemia.

(2) Patients with acute renal insufficiency or chronic renal insufficiency.

No matter what medicine you take, you need to have a comprehensive understanding of it when choosing it, so that you can see clearly whether this medicine is suitable for you and avoid too many side effects. This way, we will be safer when using it. Therefore, patients must pay more attention to it in their daily lives.
