How to choose a pillow core

How to choose a pillow core

When we buy a pillow, we must pay attention to the following three things: first, the height of the heart, second, the softness and hardness of the heart, third, whether the pillow core is elastic, and fourth, the material of the pillow core. Generally speaking, a proper height of the bed is conducive to sleep and can protect the cervical spine. If the pillow is too high, the cervical spine will gradually deform, which may eventually lead to cervical strain and even the formation of bone spurs.

When the pillow is high, breathing will be difficult, and you will be prone to mouthache, sore throat, snoring, etc. When you wake up, you will feel neck pain, headache, dizziness, tinnitus, etc.

So, how high should the pillow be? This depends on the individual and is related to each person's fatness, shoulder width, neck length, sleeping posture, etc. The appropriate height of a pillow is generally 10 to 15 cm. The pillow for people with broad shoulders, fat body and long neck should be slightly higher.

For people who are used to sleeping on their backs, the height of their pillow should be the same as the height of their fist after compression (the height of the fist with the base of the thumb facing upward); for people who are used to sleeping on their sides, the height of their pillow should be the same as the width of their shoulder on one side after compression. In addition, patients with high blood pressure, heart disease, and asthma should use slightly higher pillows, while people with low blood pressure or anemia are better off using lower pillows, which is beneficial to blood circulation.

A pillow that is too hard will reduce the contact area between the head and the pillow, causing high local pressure and making sleeping very uncomfortable. If the pillow is too soft, the head will sink into it, affecting blood circulation, causing numbness of the head, and easily causing neck muscle fatigue. The pillow should not be too elastic, otherwise the neck will feel tired and easily cause neck muscle damage.

When choosing a pillow core, the material is also important. It is best to choose a buckwheat pillow core. This type of pillow core has moderate hardness and softness and good breathability. Since the material is purely natural, it does not cause any harm to the body and is very comfortable to sleep on. Of course, some pillow cores are made of artificial fibers. This type of pillow core is harder and has poor air permeability, so it is generally not recommended.
