What is the reason for gray-black stool

By observing the color and shape of the stool, you can also effectively infer related diseases in your gastrointestinal system, so after defecating, you must observe the color of the stool. For normal people, the feces should be yellowish-brown, which is normal, so there is no need to worry too much about gastrointestinal problems. If a person finds that his stool is gray and black, what is the cause?

There are many reasons why stools turn black. Generally speaking, there are the following:

1. Certain digestive tract diseases can cause black stools: including cirrhosis combined with ruptured esophageal or gastric varicose veins, esophageal foreign bodies, ulcer disease, acute gastritis, gastric mucosal prolapse, intussusception, hemorrhagic necrotizing enteritis, strangulated intestinal obstruction, Meckel's diverticulum, intestinal polyps, anal fissures, gastric cancer, etc. can all cause black and tarry stools.

2. Certain foods can cause black stools: Eating certain foods can cause changes in stool color, which can sometimes be easily confused with blood in the stool. If you eat pig blood, sheep blood, chicken, goose, duck blood, or a lot of beef or pork liver, the iron in the animal blood can form black iron sulfide in the human intestine, making the stool black; other foods such as eating a lot of bayberry jam and mulberry jam may also make the stool black.

3. Certain drugs can cause black stools: Oral activated carbon powder, iron supplements for blood tonic, bismuth preparations for treating stomach problems and certain Chinese medicines can also cause black stools.

4. Certain blood diseases can also cause black stools: neonatal hemorrhagic disease, hemophilia, leukemia, aplastic anemia, thrombocytopenia and allergic purpura can all cause black stools.

5. Certain systemic infectious diseases can also cause black stools: such as sepsis, typhoid fever, etc. Newborns swallowing blood from the mother's birth canal or ruptured nipples, or swallowing bleeding from the nose, throat, or gums. If the symptoms persist or you feel unwell, go to a regular hospital for treatment.
