Are high blood lipids and high triglycerides the same thing?

In today's life, we often see people with big bellies when walking on the street. They eat well, always eating big amounts of meat and fish, but they do little exercise and basically don't walk. They take a car if they can and take the elevator instead of taking the stairs. This will allow fat to come to them, and once people become fat, they will have many health problems. Everyone has heard of high blood lipids and high blood sugar, but most people are unfamiliar with what high triglycerides are. Are high blood lipids and high triglycerides the same thing?

Dyslipidemia, commonly known as hyperlipidemia, can be divided into two categories: one is elevated cholesterol, which refers to elevated total cholesterol, especially elevated low-density lipoprotein cholesterol; the other is elevated triglycerides. The two have different hazards to the human body and treatment measures.

High triglycerides mean high blood lipids. High triglycerides mean high blood lipids. If triglycerides are high, the blood viscosity is likely to increase, which in turn may cause a series of diseases.

Triglyceride levels are greatly affected by diet, so a healthy diet is key. On the one hand, fat intake accelerates the synthesis of triglycerides, and on the other hand, it slows down the clearance of triglycerides, so you should stay away from fat; in addition, excessive intake of cereal foods, especially refined grains, is also the main cause of increased triglycerides, so you should control your food intake appropriately and pay attention to the reasonable combination of coarse and fine grains, which will be beneficial to the control of triglyceride levels.

Elevated triglycerides are a common condition that usually has no symptoms and is discovered during a blood test. However, a large number of studies have shown that elevated triglycerides can cause atherosclerosis, are an important risk factor for coronary heart disease and stroke, and may increase microvascular complications in diabetic patients. Lowering triglycerides can reduce the risk of cardiovascular events. Severely elevated triglycerides can also lead to acute pancreatitis. About 10% of acute pancreatitis is caused by high triglycerides. Therefore, sufficient attention should be paid to elevated triglycerides.

Treatment of high triglycerides:

1. Lifestyle changes are the basic measures for treating this disease and need to be maintained for a long time. Eat a balanced diet, control total calories, limit carbohydrate and fat intake, and increase vegetable and polyunsaturated fatty acid intake. People who are obese or overweight should lose weight. Limit alcohol consumption, get enough exercise, and quit smoking.

2. For those with clear causes, such as secondary triglyceride elevation caused by alcoholism, obesity, diabetes, drugs, hypothyroidism, hyperadrenocortical function, etc., treatment should be targeted at the cause.

3. If triglycerides are still >2.3 mmol/L after lifestyle changes, consider drug treatment; if >5.6 mmol/L, drug treatment should be started immediately to prevent acute pancreatitis. If triglycerides are slightly to moderately elevated and cholesterol is also elevated, statins should be used first to lower cholesterol.

Patients should change their previous eating habits, avoid eating too greasy food, eat less high-fat and high-sugar foods, eat more foods that can lower blood lipids, such as carrots, kelp, etc., and be sure to control their mouths. Exercise can lower blood lipids, so patients need to exercise actively. You can run, play ball, etc.
