1. The relationship between red wine and oxygen

Oxygen and wine are not suitable for establishing a long-term "relationship". Although wine needs a small amount of oxygen to breathe fully and develop a complex aroma, if it is in contact with oxygen for a long time, it will have the opposite effect. When wine comes into contact with too much oxygen, it becomes sour. After opening the bottle of wine, if you cannot finish it, you can continue to cover the bottle with a cork to minimize the wine's contact with oxygen. However, this is not a 100% safe practice. Once the wine is left for a long time, it will still go bad.

2. Red wine

Red wine has a relatively high tannin content, and tannin can prevent wine from oxidizing, so red wine can generally be stored longer than white wine. From this point of view, the lower the tannin content of red wine, the shorter its shelf life. For example, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah wines with heavier tannins generally have a longer shelf life than Beaujolais and Pinot Noir wines with lighter tannins. In addition, the fuller the body of the red wine, the longer its shelf life. After opening the bottle, a full-bodied red wine can be kept for 5 days, while a light-bodied wine can only be kept for 3 days.

After opening the bottle of red wine, it must be drunk as soon as possible. The editor would like to remind everyone that wine that has been aged for more than 10 years should also be drunk as soon as possible after opening the bottle. To put it simply, the older the wine is, the sooner it needs to be drunk after opening the bottle. Also, be sure to use professional bottle stoppers to prevent air leakage. Generally speaking, it is best to drink red wine within four hours.
