Can I use erythromycin if the wound is broken

When a wound appears on your body, you must pay attention to its recovery to avoid inflammation and pus discharge. There are many ointments that can kill bacteria and reduce inflammation in daily life. You can apply these ointments on the wound appropriately to promote wound recovery. Among them, erythromycin ointment should be an anti-inflammatory drug that exists in every household. However, when the wound is broken, can erythromycin ointment really be used for sterilization and anti-inflammation?

Can I use erythromycin ointment for abrasions?

Erythromycin ointment can be used for skin abrasions. Erythromycin ointment is suitable for the wound healing and proliferative period. During the period when the patient's skin is abraded, the wound is dry, hard and painful, the skin is itchy, the skin around the dry scab is wrinkled, and a large amount of epithelial tissue is irregularly shed. Care and slight operation can cause the new epithelium to be damaged and bleed, causing pain. The pain caused by the destruction and bleeding of the new epithelial tissue, the prolonged healing period, and the contamination of the bed sheets increase the patient's suffering and the workload of nursing work.

Therefore, applying erythromycin ointment externally can soften the dry scab, protect the new epithelial tissue, avoid the scab from breaking and the wound from being rubbed, ensure the cleanliness of the bed sheets, and reduce the nursing workload and the patient's pain. The general usage is 2 times a day, apply thinly to the affected area. It is very effective in healing wounds.

In addition to fighting infection, erythromycin ointment has the following uses:

Minor trauma: Erythromycin ointment can be used for minor bruises, scratches or other traumas on the body. The general usage is to clean and disinfect the affected area, then apply an appropriate amount of ointment to the affected area, twice a day.

Mild burns: For small burns, you can first rinse the wound with cold water, and then apply a thin layer of erythromycin ointment on the surface.

Mosquito bites: When the mosquito bites are serious, you should clean and disinfect the bitten area in time, apply an appropriate amount of this ointment twice a day for 5-7 consecutive days.

Nosebleeds: Dry weather can make the originally dry nasal mucosa of some people more fragile, so nosebleeds often occur. At this time, you may wish to apply an appropriate amount of erythromycin ointment to the nasal septum, 4-5 times a day. It can disinfect and soften the nasal cavity, moisturize the nasal mucosa, improve the nasal environment, and prevent re-bleeding. Do not apply too much to prevent the ointment from flowing back into the mouth.

Angular cheilitis: Angular cheilitis is mostly caused by infection and is more common in preschool children. For bacterial angular cheilitis, you can apply a small amount of erythromycin ointment and take vitamin B2 at the same time.

It should be noted that there is another dosage form of erythromycin ointment for eye inflammation, called erythromycin eye ointment. They contain different concentrations of erythromycin, with the ointment containing 1% and the eye ointment containing 0.5%.

Finally, a friendly reminder that although erythromycin ointment is widely used, it is ineffective for skin diseases caused by fungal infections such as tinea capitis, onychomycosis, tinea cruris, and tinea manuum and pedis. Erythromycin ointment may occasionally cause adverse reactions, such as local burning, dryness, itching, erythema, and occasionally urticaria-like reactions. If the above adverse reactions occur, stop using the product immediately.
