Which examinations require fasting blood draws?

In daily life, I believe that many friends will be asked by the company to do a physical examination report after passing the interview. This is not only responsible for themselves but also for other colleagues. There are many items in the physical examination report that require blood draws. So many friends hope to know them very clearly, so which examinations require fasting blood draws? Facing this problem, please discuss with me in the next time.

Not all examination items require fasting blood draw. Only when checking biochemical items such as blood sugar and blood lipids, fasting blood draw is necessary. This is because the normal reference values of some biochemical items are measured using the fasting blood of normal people. After eating, the biochemical components in the blood will show temporary changes. For example, the blood sugar and blood lipid results will increase, which cannot be compared with the normal values measured by fasting blood, and it is impossible to obtain accurate clinical judgment. Therefore, fasting blood draw is required for such examinations. Which specific tests require fasting blood draw? Mainly:

1. Blood lipid measurement (including total cholesterol, high-density cholesterol, low-density cholesterol, triglycerides, and apolipoproteins). After a meal, the cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the blood will increase, and will return to the fasting level after 8 to 12 hours. Therefore, when doing this type of test, the person being tested is required to abstain from high-fat foods within 24 hours before blood collection, and to fast for at least 12 hours before drawing blood in the early morning.

2. Blood sugar measurement: The starch in food after a meal is quickly broken down into glucose in the gastrointestinal tract and absorbed into the blood after a few minutes. The blood sugar concentration rises to a peak after half an hour and gradually returns to the fasting level after 4 hours. Therefore, fasting blood test is required. When doing glucose tolerance test, you should not eat after dinner the day before the test and fast for 8-14 hours before the test.

3. Blood rheology examination: The blood viscosity of the human body is highest at 11:00 a.m. and 20:00 p.m. within 24 hours. Eating can cause changes in the hematocrit and plasma composition, so fasting blood should be drawn in the early morning for examination.

4. Total bile acid test: Bile acid will increase after meals, so fasting blood test is required. Other items that require fasting blood tests include erythrocyte sedimentation rate test, serum iron, transferrin, etc. In addition, three immunoglobulin items (IgA, IgG, IgM) and three rheumatism items (ASO, RF, CRP) are also best tested with fasting blood. 5. The best time to check six sex hormones is on the 3rd to 5th day of menstruation, with blood drawn on an empty stomach. Blood tests (biochemistry, tumor markers, hormones, etc.) are required for fasting.

I believe that with the above discussion, the majority of friends have a deeper understanding and cognition of which examinations require fasting blood draws. This will allow us to be fully prepared for daily physical examinations. Of course, I would like to remind everyone that these examinations that require fasting blood draws can correctly show the state of our body, so everyone should take these examinations seriously.
