What can upper abdominal CT examine?

Now when we suffer from some diseases, when we do examinations in the hospital, different examination methods will be adopted according to different conditions. When some diseases appear in the upper abdomen, CT examination will be used for examination. For example, inflammation, abscesses and some tumors can be detected through CT examination. Of course, when using CT for examination, there will also be some harm to physical health, and patients need to know this before the examination.

What can upper abdominal CT scan examine?

Abdominal CT scan is an option for clinical examination, which can reveal damage to some solid organs in the abdominal cavity, the condition of the abdominal lymph nodes and the lymph nodes around the abdominal aorta, and whether there are abnormalities in tissues and organs such as the spleen, liver, and kidneys.

The dangers of CT

1. Clinically, although CT examinations only account for 5% of X-ray examinations, they account for 1/3-2/3 of the total radiation exposure of medical X-ray examinations, especially diagnostic X-ray examinations, and the proportion is increasing. In particular, the application of multi-phase spiral CT scanning technology (arterial phase, venous phase, delayed phase) has doubled the radiation exposure of patients, and the chance of damaging health and inducing cancer has also increased significantly. In particular, children are more sensitive to X-rays than adults and are more vulnerable. In recent years, American scholars have estimated that approximately 500 children under the age of 15 in the United States may develop cancer directly from CT scans. These figures are worrying.

2. The harm of CT examination to the human body is that the person being examined is exposed to a large dose of X-ray radiation. Domestic and foreign studies have shown that when different types of CT machines perform head scans, the patient's maximum body surface dose can reach an average of 36.6-70.0 MGY (3.66-7.00 roentgens), second only to X-ray cardiac catheterization and gastrointestinal angiography, and 2.8-11 times that of conventional X-ray chest X-ray or physical examination. During a CT scan, the maximum absorbed dose of the examinee's skin can be as high as 560 MGY (56 roentgens), and generally reaches around 60 MGY (6 roentgens); the radiation dose of an abdominal CT examination is 8 times that of an abdominal plain film; when women undergo an abdominal or pelvic CT examination, the uterine radiation dose is 9-12 times higher than that of a conventional X-ray diagnosis, and the bone marrow radiation dose is 16-23 times higher than that of a conventional X-ray.

Requirements for inspection:

(1) During the examination, follow the technician's instructions, keep your body still, and cooperate with the examination by breathing calmly, holding your breath, not swallowing saliva, and not blinking.

(2) Follow the doctor's instructions and drink the contrast agent regularly and in the correct amount.

(3) The CT machine is equipped with an intercom. If you feel any discomfort or abnormality during the examination, you should inform the doctor immediately.
