What are the first aid methods for drug poisoning

When we take medicine, the dosage may exceed the normal value, or we may take certain medicines incorrectly, or we may abuse certain medicines. These reasons can lead to drug poisoning. In fact, whether it is Chinese medicine or Western medicine, if it is used indiscriminately, there is a possibility of drug poisoning. Generally speaking, patients with drug poisoning will experience many symptoms such as dizziness and mental disorders, and should be rescued in time.

In most cases, the diagnosis can be based on the history of exposure to toxic substances and medication use. Generally, the characteristic manifestations of poisoning are similar to those in adults. Sometimes, clinical diagnosis is difficult if the history of poisoning is unclear, the child cannot describe it accurately, or the child is unconscious during diagnosis and treatment. Even some symptoms and signs of drug poisoning are similar to those of common medical diseases, which can easily lead to misdiagnosis or missed diagnosis. For example, when an adult experiences toxic side effects from an injection of drugs such as streptomycin, symptoms such as tinnitus and dizziness may appear first. Deafness can be avoided after stopping the medication. However, infants and young children cannot describe the symptoms, and it is often difficult to detect them in time. Sometimes deafness is not easily detected, and may not be discovered until after a period of time, thus losing the opportunity for treatment.

For children suspected of acute drug poisoning, if the condition is mild, they should be observed first and given general treatment. Moving a child away from a poison-contaminated area is often better than treating him or her hours or even days later. Clothes contaminated with poisons should be taken off immediately, and the skin that has come into contact with the poison should be washed repeatedly with plenty of water for more than 15 minutes. Avoid using hot water, lukewarm water is preferred. Eye contamination can be thoroughly cleaned with saline or clean water. Especially if strong acid or alkali splashes into the eyes, it needs to be rinsed repeatedly for at least half an hour.

Different drugs cause different symptoms after poisoning, so when rescuing, you should first understand what drug the poisoning is caused by. For example, if it is digitalis poisoning, the patient will often feel dizzy and have an abnormal heart rate. If the poisoning is caused by atropine, the patient's pupils will dilate and the vision will become blurred.
