What are the hazards of hydrogen peroxide to the human body

Hydrogen peroxide is a chemical raw material, which is divided into industrial and medical use. We use it frequently in our daily lives. It is generally helpful for our lives, especially for disinfection and sterilization. However, it must be used in the correct way and must not cause harm to the human body. Generally, the main harm to the human body is skin contact and accidental ingestion. What are the hazards of hydrogen peroxide to the human body? Let’s take a look below.

Hydrogen peroxide solution, with the chemical formula H2O2, is commonly known as hydrogen peroxide in its aqueous solution. It is a colorless, transparent liquid and is a strong oxidant suitable for wound disinfection, environmental disinfection, and food disinfection. The uses of hydrogen peroxide are divided into three categories: medical, military and industrial. Medical hydrogen peroxide is used for daily disinfection. Medical hydrogen peroxide can kill intestinal pathogens and pyogenic cocci and is generally used for surface disinfection of objects. Hydrogen peroxide has an oxidizing effect, but the concentration of medical hydrogen peroxide is equal to or lower than 3%. When it is wiped on the wound surface, there will be a burning sensation and the surface will be oxidized to white. Just wash it with clean water, and the original skin color will be restored after 3-5 minutes!

Health Hazards: Concentrated hydrogen peroxide is highly corrosive. Inhalation of the vapor or mist of this product is highly irritating to the respiratory tract. Direct eye contact with liquid can cause irreversible damage or even blindness. Oral poisoning may cause abdominal pain, chest pain, difficulty breathing, vomiting, temporary movement and sensory disorders, and fever. Some cases may experience visual impairment, epileptic convulsions, and mild paralysis.

Through the above introduction, we know the harm of hydrogen peroxide to the human body. We must use it correctly in life to help our lives. We must also pay attention to the correct method during use, especially do not put it where children can reach, so as to avoid accidents.
