What causes nodules on the back?

Nodules can occur in many parts of the body. Most people do not pay attention to it. Generally, they let it develop. By the time they pay attention to it, the disease may have become very serious. Sometimes the best time for treatment has been missed. It is a very common phenomenon to have nodules on the back. There are many reasons for this. It is best to go to the hospital to find out the cause.

What causes nodules on the back?

The nodules on the back may be related to long-term work with the head down and sitting for long periods of time, and should be caused by local muscle hardening. Treatment can be carried out by applying hot compresses and massage to the cervical spine, shoulders and back. Apply local hot compress and microwave treatment, pay attention to rest, reduce activity and excessive fatigue, do head-up exercises, massage reasonably and perform neck and shoulder muscle function exercises. It may also be related to lipoma, mainly due to obstruction of the sebaceous gland excretion duct, which causes the sebaceous gland cystic epithelium to swell with the gradually increasing contents to form a retention cyst, which does not require special treatment.

What is a sebaceous cyst

Sebaceous cyst, commonly known as cyst, is the most common mass lesion on the body surface clinically. It is benign pathologically, but sometimes it may become malignant. The human skin is covered with sebaceous glands that secrete oil, which are located in the dermis. When the discharge of sebum is blocked, the sebum accumulates in the sebaceous gland cavity to form cysts. It often occurs in sebum-rich areas such as the head, face, back and buttocks. The diameter of the lump is usually 1 to 3 cm, with clear boundaries. A small black dot is often seen in the thin skin in the center of the lump. This is the opening of the sebaceous gland, and cheese-like substance can be squeezed out by squeezing it hard. The accumulated sebum is milky white and semi-fluid. It can produce a foul odor when decomposed by bacteria and often leads to secondary infection to form abscesses. Surgery is the only cure. When removing the cyst, a fusiform incision consistent with the direction of the skin grain is chosen to remove the cyst together with the surface skin, and the cyst wall is completely removed to prevent recurrence.

It is worth noting that, in addition to the face, when sebaceous cysts in other parts of the body are infected, primary surgery to remove the infected cysts and suture them will speed up healing and avoid long-term dressing changes. Facial sebaceous cysts must be treated surgically after the inflammation is under control to avoid prolonged surgical wounds that affect beauty.

What is the diagnosis of sebaceous cyst?

Dermoid cysts are often found in childhood or adolescence. They generally grow slowly, are small in size, and reside in the subcutaneous tissue, so they have no adhesion to the surface skin. It is soft, spherical, and fluctuating when palpated, but sometimes firmer. Its base is often adhered to deep tissue and is difficult to push, and may also be adhered to the underlying periosteum tissue.

It often occurs around the eye sockets, the root of the nose, the occipital area and the floor of the mouth. Dermoid cysts should be differentiated from sebaceous cysts when diagnosed. The latter is characterized by tight adhesion to its surface skin but lack of adhesion to the deeper tissues. It should also be distinguished from epidermoid cysts, which often have a history of trauma.

Dermoid cysts at the root of the nose should be distinguished from meningocele, glioma, etc., as they are easily confused. The meningocele is connected to the cranial cavity and has a sense of compressibility and fluctuation. Radiographs can help with differential diagnosis. In addition, it should be differentiated from cystic hygroma, teratoma or thyrohyoid cyst, which is generally not difficult.
