(5) Phenolic compounds and formaldehyde, etc. These substances have the effect of accelerating carcinogenesis. (6) Carbon monoxide can reduce the ability of red blood cells to transport oxygen throughout the body. 1. Carcinogenic effect It is generally recognized that smoking causes cancer. Epidemiological surveys have shown that smoking is one of the important risk factors for lung cancer, especially squamous cell carcinoma and small cell undifferentiated carcinoma. The risk of lung cancer for smokers is 13 times that of non-smokers. If smokers smoke more than 35 cigarettes a day, the risk is 45 times higher than that of non-smokers. The lung cancer mortality rate among smokers is 10 to 13 times higher than that among non-smokers. About 85% of lung cancer deaths are caused by smoking.

2. Impact on the cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases Many studies have shown that smoking is a major risk factor for many cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. The incidence of coronary heart disease, hypertension, cerebrovascular disease and peripheral vascular disease in smokers is significantly increased. Statistics show that 75% of patients with coronary heart disease and hypertension have a history of smoking.
