How to choose a hearing aid_How do the elderly choose a hearing aid

Nowadays, people often need to use hearing aids to help themselves hear the sounds of the outside world, especially many elderly people or children with congenital maldevelopment, who all need the assistance of hearing aids. It is very important to choose hearing aids. You must choose according to the individual's ear shape and current structure. Everyone has different requirements for hearing aids.

How do the elderly choose hearing aids?

There are usually several characteristics that the elderly have when choosing hearing aids, namely: simple and convenient to use, good effect, and as low a price as possible.

As people age, their hearing will gradually decline. In addition to mastering knowledge about the prevention, detection, rehabilitation and treatment of hearing loss and ear diseases, choosing appropriate hearing aids is also important for the quality of their hearing.

Experts point out that patients with hearing loss should first undergo special hearing tests and fittings when choosing to wear hearing aids. At the same time, you must also pay attention to some issues including hearing and non-hearing:

1. The degree and type of hearing loss. Each type of hearing aid has its own adaptation range. For example, behind-the-ear hearing aids have a wider range of hearing losses and are necessary for severe, profound deafness or high-frequency steep hearing loss. Some patients with conductive hearing loss have undergone multiple surgeries with poor results and their tympanic cavity structure has been damaged. They may consider using bone conduction hearing aids.

2. Patient’s preferences and aesthetics. Patients have different preferences for the type of hearing aid, which varies from person to person, and age seems to be closely related to aesthetic requirements. The younger people are, the more they want their hearing aids to be hidden and invisible.

3. Finger flexibility and vision. In addition to hearing loss, many elderly people also have poor eyesight and clumsy fingers, making it difficult for them to manipulate very small hearing aids and install very small batteries. It is easier to adjust the volume of a behind-the-ear hearing aid than an in-the-ear hearing aid. However, if the hearing aid comes with a remote control, there is no difference between the two. From the perspective of ease of removal, an in-the-ear hearing aid is slightly more convenient than a behind-the-ear hearing aid. Semi-concha and ear canal tympanic membrane (or in-the-ear hearing aid) are much easier to control than full-concha.

4. Ear canal size. Behind-the-ear hearing aids can be equipped with devices such as audio input and FM interface, allowing the realization of directional microphone characteristics, which are not easy to achieve with built-in hearing aids.

While wearing hearing aids, you should also pay attention to some minor issues such as ear comfort, echo and noise.

First of all, regarding the appearance type of hearing aids, two types are recommended for elderly users, namely behind-the-ear type and in-the-ear type.

Both of these looks are adopted by senior citizens in large numbers. If the elderly do not care about the appearance, and are very old and their hands and feet are not very flexible, then they can use the behind-the-ear type. The advantage is that it is a standard product and is relatively cheap. If the elderly want something more aesthetically pleasing, they can choose the in-ear canal type, which is the most suitable type for the elderly among the three customized types (concha cavity type, ear canal type, deep ear canal type). The machine is worn in the ear canal, which is more convenient and has better sweat-proof performance in summer.
