How to use oxygen bags

How to use oxygen bags

Most oxygen bags are still kept at home for use. In particular, patients who already have some chronic diseases should store oxygen bags at home for a long time to prevent themselves from not being able to get first aid in time when the disease attacks. Because the input of oxygen will improve any disease, especially some diseases that easily cause breathing difficulties, it can quickly relieve the patient's pain and will not bring more serious effects.

First of all, preparations should be made before use. Home oxygen bags should not be too large, 71 cm x 42 cm is appropriate. In addition, you should also have a rubber hose of about 1 meter, a humidifier bottle and a nasal plug. The new oxygen bag you just bought home needs to be inflated, deflated and patted repeatedly to expel the talcum powder in the bag to prevent it from being inhaled by the patient. Before use, connect one end of the hose to the nasal plug and the other end to the humidifier bottle, and then connect the oxygen bag to the other end of the humidifier bottle.

Secondly, when using it, insert the nasal plug into the patient's nasal cavity, fix the catheter with tape, let the patient's head rest on the oxygen bag, and use the pressure to divert the oxygen out. After turning on the oxygen bag switch, pay attention to adjusting the oxygen flow. Generally, it should start from a low flow. The flow rate should be determined according to the patient's specific situation. For patients with respiratory failure, the flow rate should be small rather than large, otherwise it will aggravate respiratory depression and cause danger. In an emergency, you can also use an oxygen bag directly without a humidifier bottle.

Third, the oxygen used in household oxygen bags should be ordinary mixed oxygen, which is available in major hospitals or emergency centers and cannot be replaced by industrial oxygen.

In addition, since oxygen supports combustion, fire is prohibited in rooms where oxygen is being inhaled. For patients who continue to use oxygen, the special catheter sterilized with boiling water should be replaced once a day. The first time I used an oxygen bag at home was under the guidance of medical staff.

1. If the oxygen bag is newly purchased, it should be washed with clean water and dried before use; the oxygen bag should be stored in a cool, ventilated and dry place at ordinary times, away from heat sources and fire.

2. The nasal catheter can be washed with clean water after use, boiled and disinfected for later use.

3. In order to prevent damage and inflammation of the nasal mucosa, nasal catheters can be inserted into the nostrils on both sides alternately.

If you have just bought a new oxygen bag, you cannot use it directly. You must wash it in clean water and dry it before you can use it. However, the oxygen bag must be stored in a well-ventilated environment. Only in this way will it not be damaged in any way. Also, you must ensure that the oxygen bag is clean.
