Is the golden-headed centipede poisonous?

Is the golden-headed centipede poisonous?

I believe everyone is familiar with animals like centipedes. Centipedes, like snakes, are animals that people hate. People are afraid of centipedes not only because they don't look very good, but also because they are generally believed to be poisonous. After all, centipede bites happen from time to time. Now that you know whether centipedes are poisonous or not, you will be better able to deal with them when you encounter them. So, is the golden-headed centipede poisonous? Let’s take a closer look below.

Centipede is commonly known as centipede, also known as Tianlong. Belongs to the phylum Arthropoda, class Myriapoda. The body length is 8-25 cm, with a pair of antennae on the head, 21 body segments and 21 pairs of legs. The first pair forms sickle-shaped venom palates and contains venom glands. Under artificial breeding conditions, they reach sexual maturity at around 6 months. The mature centipede is 11-14 cm long, 0.5-1.1 cm wide, and slightly flattened dorsally and ventrally.

Centipede is warm in nature, spicy in taste and poisonous. It has the functions of calming wind and relieving pain, attacking toxins and dispersing nodules, stopping menstruation and relieving pain. It is mainly used to treat hemiplegia, lacerations, bone tuberculosis, scrofula, snake bites, infantile convulsions, and stroke. Modern research shows that the main components of centipedes are histamine, hemolytic protein, multiple amino acids, fatty amines and cholesterol. In addition, they also contain orange pigment and light blue-green pigment.

Centipede toxin has a hemolytic effect on the central nervous system of rats, and has a nicotine-acetylcholine-like hemolytic effect. It can cause necrosis and disappearance of mouse spermatogonia, indicating that it has an inhibitory effect on tumor cells. In recent years, it has been used to treat digestive system tumors and cancers with good efficacy. Centipede is also the main raw material for Chinese patent medicines such as "snake medicine tablets", "detoxification ointment" and "Sanfeng Huoluo pills". This shows that centipedes are indispensable animal medicinal materials.

I think everyone should have a clear understanding of whether the golden-headed centipede is poisonous. Centipedes are somewhat poisonous, but they usually do not cause disease, so there is no need to be afraid of them. Although centipedes are animals that people dislike very much, they have high medicinal value and are effective in treating many diseases, which is quite good.
