Prostate cancer has the highest incidence rate among elderly men in a certain continent, and its mortality rate is second only to lung cancer. It is reported that there are 70,000 to 80,000 new cases of prostate cancer in my country every year, and 95% of them occur in people over 60 years old. In recent years, with the improvement of living standards and excessive intake of high-fat diet, the incidence of prostate cancer has risen sharply. Prostate cancer is difficult to detect in its early stages There are usually no symptoms in the early stages of prostate cancer. Even if there is some discomfort, it is not enough to attract the patient's attention. When the tumor grows and compresses the urethra, it is often confused with prostate hyperplasia. If prostate cancer can be detected in the early stages, the cure rate can reach more than 95%. Unfortunately, most of the prostate cancers diagnosed in many patients are advanced tumors that have already metastasized. At this point, the lesion is already in the advanced stage and the prognosis is poor. Experts tell us that the difficulty in detecting early prostate cancer is mainly due to the following three reasons: 1. Prostate cancer has no specific symptoms in the early stages of the disease, and patients are unable to detect abnormalities early. By the time patients feel abnormalities, the tumor has already metastasized. Second, early prostate cancer cannot be diagnosed through B-ultrasound, CT, MRI or even more advanced imaging examinations such as PET-CT. Therefore, routine physical examinations cannot detect early prostate cancer. 3. Most people lack a correct understanding of prostate cancer, so they will not take the initiative to go to the hospital to see a urologist for prostate cancer screening. In addition, the routine physical examination programs of various units in society do not include prostate cancer screening, so early prostate cancer is often delayed in diagnosis. Men over 50 years old should undergo a digital rectal examination and PSA test every year There is no need to panic about prostate cancer. The 2012 guidelines for urology diagnosis and treatment in a certain continent and a certain country both recommend the following diagnostic methods: 1. Digital rectal examination of the prostate, which is when the doctor touches the texture of the prostate through the patient's anus with his fingers. Experienced doctors can easily find prostate cancer through this examination, and the accuracy of this examination is much higher than that of CT examination. Many men give up easily because they think this examination is embarrassing. In fact, the accuracy rate of digital rectal examination is 50 to 70 percent, which can provide early diagnosis and radical cure opportunities. 2. Blood PSA test is to draw blood from the patient's vein for testing. The PSA of cancer patients is generally much higher than normal, which indicates the possibility of prostate cancer. Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test can be used to diagnose prostate cancer in its early stages and should be a routine item in the physical examination of elderly men. 3. Transrectal prostate biopsy is the only way to confirm prostate cancer. If either the rectal digital examination or the PSA test is abnormal, the next step is transrectal prostate ultrasound and MRI, but the method of confirmation is transrectal prostate biopsy. Experts recommend that men over 50 and men over 40 with a strong family history of prostate cancer should undergo a digital rectal examination and PSA test once a year. |
