Mumps is located below or on both sides of our earlobes. It usually occurs when the climate changes and is contagious to a certain extent. Children are more likely to get sick because their immunity is not high and they are easily infected by the mumps virus. symptom The incubation period is 8 to 30 days, usually 14 to 21 days. The prodromal phase is characterized by low-grade fever, loss of appetite, fatigue, and headache. Most patients have no obvious prodromal symptoms and present with parotid swelling and pain. Usually one side of the parotid gland swells first, followed by the contralateral side. It manifests as bilateral parotid gland enlargement, which spreads outward from the earlobe, with unclear boundaries, elasticity and mild tenderness to the touch. The pain is worse when opening the mouth to chew or eat acidic foods. The local skin is tense and the surface is hot, but there is no color change or suppuration. The parotid duct opening (located on the cheek mucosa opposite the maxillary second molar) often appears red and swollen at the beginning of the disease. Parotid gland swelling reaches its peak in 2 to 3 days and gradually subsides after 4 to 5 days. The onset is acute and may be accompanied by high fever, chills, headache and general malaise. When the parotid gland is swollen, the submandibular gland and sublingual gland may also be affected. Atypical cases may never have parotid swelling, but may present with simple meningitis, encephalitis, orchitis or submandibular gland inflammation. Etiology and pathogenesis The cause of mumps is infection with the mumps pathogen. It is easy to be infected during climate change and mumps epidemic. When children's body resistance is reduced, pathogenic factors can invade and cause mumps. The main pathogenesis of mumps is that evil toxins block the Shaoyang meridian of foot, fight with qi and blood, and stagnate in the cheek under the ear. The Complete Book of Experience in Treating Ulcers and Sores - Mumps Poison records: "This poison is received at the roots of the teeth and the ear canals, and through the liver and kidneys, Qi and blood do not flow, and stagnate in the cheeks. This is a wind-toxic disease." It points out the cause and pathogenesis of this disease. |
