What to do with severe procrastination

The symptoms of procrastination can be mild or severe, and severe procrastination is more troublesome. The procrastination time is very long and the symptoms are relatively more serious. In this case, timely treatment is necessary and the cause of procrastination must be clarified so that appropriate treatment can be given.

1. First of all, we need to understand what causes procrastination.

A person’s biggest enemy is actually himself. Many times you will find that there are always two thoughts controlling yourself. One is rational, reminding you what is right and what you should do; the other is the laziness, fear, and indulgence in your heart... When making decisions, these two ideas often struggle with each other, and the latter often wins in the end, which leads to procrastination. If you allow laziness to grow in your heart, it will cause procrastination in your life again and again.

2. Set a deadline for completing the task

For things that should have been completed on Friday, you can try to set the deadline to Wednesday, and keep reminding yourself that you must complete it before Wednesday. Find all kinds of reasons why it will be too late to put it off until Friday to increase the pressure of the task.

3. Lower your expectations for the task

For those who procrastinate because they expect perfection, they can lower their expectations for how well a task should be done, or they can lower their goals. Make the task seem easier and you won’t procrastinate.

4. Start taking action as soon as possible

"The body is still, but the mind is far away" is not a very good working state. "Action when the mind moves" is the reliable state. Refuse to be a giant in thought and a dwarf in action. Instead, summarize and improve as you go along. It may be slow in the early stages, but once you become familiar with it and get involved, everything will take its course.

5. Give yourself psychological motivation

The first thing to do is to recognize that you have a procrastination problem and hope that you can change it. This is the first step for us to change, and psychological motivation is the prerequisite for change.
