I suddenly got dizzy when I stood up. This is a good way to prevent it

Some female friends have had this experience: they feel dizzy if they suddenly stand up. This is mainly caused by temporary changes in cardiovascular function, called common syncope. As the circulatory function improves and cerebral ischemia is corrected, the symptoms will disappear quickly.

1. Reasons

Some people will feel dizzy, or even turn pale and faint when they suddenly stand up after squatting for a while. The cardiologist explained that this was due to temporary ischemia of the brain, which manifested as a brief loss of consciousness, medically known as syncope. As circulatory function improves and cerebral ischemia is corrected, the symptoms will disappear quickly.

There are many causes of syncope, but most of them are caused by temporary changes in cardiovascular function, which is called common syncope. Pain, mental stress, fear, heat, anxiety, excessive exertion, and even laughing, coughing, and changes in body position can induce common syncope. A very rare cause is an organic disease of the heart itself, which causes a sudden decrease in the amount of blood pumped by the heart, which is called cardiogenic syncope. Those with serious conditions need to be rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment.

Doctors believe that once fainting occurs, the most effective and easiest way is to take positional measures. If a person who faints, immediately lie down flat or with the head slightly lowered and feet slightly raised, can improve the blood supply to the brain. At the same time, others should help loosen the patient's collar and belt to keep his airway open.

2. How to prevent orthostatic hypotension

1. When getting up from lying or sitting, take your time and get up slowly.

2. Lift your feet or step forward when standing up.

3. In order to allow the flow of hormones from the renin-aldosterone system that can increase blood pressure, raise your head when sleeping.

4. Improve blood circulation, improve the balance of the autonomic nervous system, and perform light and moderate exercises such as strengthening muscles.

5. Increase water and salt intake and eat a balanced diet.
