Many parents will find irregular patches of blue-purple Mongolian spots on their children's buttocks one or two months after their children are born. For many new mothers, seeing these spots on their children's buttocks makes them panic because they have no experience and are worried that these spots will grow bigger and bigger. I wonder if these Mongolian spots will disappear? What many people call Mongolian spots are actually what we commonly call birthmarks. Birthmarks can disappear for most children, but each child's situation and physical condition are different, so the time of disappearance is different. Some will disappear after three months, while for some children, the birthmarks will slowly disappear after five or six months. For many children, the Mongolian spots will disappear after one year old. You can observe for three years. If the birthmark has not disappeared after three years, you can use laser treatment on the child. Mongolian spot is a congenital dermal melanocytosis. Because babies are born with it, it is also called infantile nevus. Histologically, melanocytes can be seen staying deep in the dermis, so it is also called dermal melanosis. Mongolian spots can occur anywhere on the body, but are most common in the lumbar region and buttocks. Because melanin particles are located in deeper parts, they appear gray-green or blue under the Tyndall effect of light. As the baby grows, the color of Mongolian spots gradually fades or disappears. It does not cause any harm to the body and no special treatment is required. Pigmented spots are almost always confined to the lumbar region and buttocks, occasionally seen on the thighs or even shoulders, and are gray-green, blue or blue-black in color, round, oval or irregular in shape, with unclear edges, and a diameter ranging from only a few millimeters to more than ten centimeters. Most are single. Except for pigmentation changes, there is no abnormality in the affected area and the skin texture is normal. It is present in the fetus, deepens for a period of time after birth, and then gradually fades. It usually disappears on its own without leaving any trace at the age of 5 to 7 years. Occasionally, it may persist in adulthood or even expand. |
