Precautions after surgery for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

Precautions after surgery for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

The treatment for patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy includes surgical treatment, but it is also necessary to understand the surgical treatment and precautions. If surgical treatment is not adopted, removing the hypertrophic myocardium will not fundamentally solve the myocardial ventricular obstruction.

1 The main symptoms of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy include exertional dyspnea, chest pain, palpitations, dizziness and syncope. Therefore, treatment should be carried out after the symptoms are controlled. For those with dyspnea, ask the patient to stop activity immediately and wait until breathing is restored. Use drugs to treat related symptoms, and then treat the cause.

2 The main medical treatments are receptor blockers and calcium channel blockers, which are the most common. Through the use of these drugs, the heart rate is slowed down, the myocardial contractility is reduced, and the outflow tract obstruction is alleviated. Metoprolol or verapamil are commonly used drugs. Be careful to avoid the use of cardiotonic drugs to avoid aggravating the obstruction and thus increase survival time.

3Surgical treatment is generally not performed on patients with very severe obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Chemical ablation with anhydrous ethanol or implantation can be performed. The most effective surgical measure is to surgically remove the hypertrophic part of the myocardium. Some patients develop left ventricular dilatation and heart failure as the disease progresses, and the treatment measures for this disease are the most effective.

Note:

Surgical treatment is generally not adopted. Removing the hypertrophic myocardium can only alleviate the degree of myocardial hypertrophy, but cannot fundamentally solve the cause of ventricular obstruction and hypertrophy. Patients with cardiomyopathy should pay attention to some concurrent symptoms to avoid aggravating their condition. Patients should avoid strenuous activities, sudden breath holding or standing for a long time to avoid inducing angina pectoris. The duration of cardiomyopathy varies, heart failure occurs frequently, and the prognosis is poor. But with the development of medical care, the survival rate has increased significantly.
