Why can't I straighten my fingers? Beware of tenosynovitis

If you cannot straighten your fingers, the most common cause is tenosynovitis, and the pain is persistent. If you have tenosynovitis, you should rest more, apply a warm towel to the affected area, or use ice to relieve the pain.

1. Symptoms and Signs

1. Painful joint stiffness that limits movement of the affected joint. Occasionally, there is mild swelling in the joints.

2. Persistent pain. The tendon continues to hurt after the original injury or it recurs after a long time. You should see a doctor if the following conditions occur: pain that does not improve after 7 to 10 days, if you want to avoid developing chronic tendinitis, or if you have other diseases such as bursitis, wrist syndrome or phlebitis. If the pain is severe and there is swelling, there may be a tendon rupture and immediate treatment is needed.

3. When the tendon is over-stressed during exercise, it may cause tendon inflammation. Weekend athletes who exercise occasionally rather than regularly are rarely bothered by tendon pain, which is most often caused by stress on the same joint from the same repetitive motion. It doesn’t just happen in sports, but it can happen in many types of office work or other situations.

2. Preventive Care

1. Let your muscles rest, but avoid resting for too long to prevent muscle atrophy.

2. If tendonitis is caused by exercise, changing sports is a possible method to consider.

3. Taking a massage bath can help raise body temperature and promote blood circulation.

4. You can apply a warm and wet towel to the knee area.

5. Stretch your muscles more often in daily life and before exercise.

6. Wearing knee pads can strengthen muscles and tendons.

7. Use ice cubes to reduce swelling and relieve pain, but it is not suitable for people with heart disease, diabetes or vascular problems.

8. Elevating the affected area can control swelling.

9. Taking non-steroidal painkillers can reduce inflammation and swelling.

10. Taking a short break is the best way to relieve muscle tension.

11. Do warm-up exercises before exercising, stay calm and stretch when doing exercises, and change your exercise methods frequently.
