Is there any difference between amniotic fluid and leucorrhea?

During pregnancy, amniotic fluid is a very important guarantee for the fetus. Whether the fetus can develop healthily is directly related to the amniotic fluid. Leucorrhea, as a female physiological secretion, will also undergo some changes when a woman is pregnant. During pregnancy, pregnant women sometimes cannot distinguish between amniotic fluid and leucorrhea, and even do not know when the amniotic fluid has broken. Now let’s talk about the difference between amniotic fluid and leucorrhea.

1. Amniotic fluid

Amniotic fluid refers to the colorless and transparent liquid that surrounds the baby in the pregnant woman's uterus. It protects the fetus by preventing it from being impacted by external forces. It also participates in the metabolism of the fetus. It also plays an important protective role for the mother, reducing the discomfort caused by fetal movement. Under normal circumstances, the amount of amniotic fluid during pregnancy will slowly increase with the increase in the number of weeks of pregnancy. Generally, it is about 1,000 milliliters at 38 weeks of pregnancy and about 800 milliliters for full-term babies.

2. Leucorrhea

Secretion refers to the leucorrhea of women during their menstrual period, which will change accordingly with the secretion of estrogen. Generally, the secretion of estrogen will reach its peak between two menstrual periods, so the amount of secretion at this time will be large, and it will be transparent, sticky like egg white and can be pulled into threads. The vulva will also feel moist. In the few days before and after the menstrual period, the pelvic cavity will be congested, the exudate in the vagina will increase, and the leucorrhea will also increase. Because it contains more exfoliated cells, the leucorrhea will be a little turbid.
