What are the symptoms of autoimmune thyroiditis

Autoimmune thyroiditis often occurs in some middle-aged women. The disease has a long course and develops slowly. It may manifest as symptoms such as throat discomfort or enlarged thyroid gland. If similar symptoms are found, you should actively go to the hospital for examination.

1. It is more common in middle-aged women, with a long course of disease and slow onset. The thyroid gland is diffusely, slightly to moderately enlarged, with a tough texture. It is mostly asymptomatic and pain is rare. Occasionally, there may be mild pain or tenderness. It is seen in patients with fast-growing goiters and significantly elevated anti-thyroid antibody titers. There may be discomfort in the throat, and local symptoms caused by thyroid enlargement are rare, such as neck pressure, difficulty swallowing, etc. There was no cervical lymphadenopathy.

2. Goiter has characteristic features: diffuse goiter, or multi-nodular goiter, rarely single nodule. If the thyroid gland appears as a single nodule, it is because most of the thyroid tissue is destroyed and the only thyroid tissue left is not a true single nodule. One of its characteristics is that it can be asymmetrical, has a hard and tough texture, and its surface is often not smooth. It has a round protrusion-like feel, and the cone leaves can often be touched. It can move up and down with swallowing.

3. There is currently no unified understanding of the treatment of AITD-related nephrotic syndrome. Foreign literature reports that immunosuppressants and thyroidectomy may be effective. However, more emphasis should be placed on the adequate treatment of AITD itself. Because clinically large amounts of proteinuria in nephrotic syndrome can cause the loss of thyroid-binding globulin and often aggravate hypothyroidism, the dose of thyroid replacement therapy for such patients usually needs to be increased. Clearing thyroid antibodies and abnormal thyroid antigens is the main part of treatment.
