What is primary lateral sclerosis?

Primary lateral sclerosis is very common in clinical practice, but many people do not know what it is. In fact, primary lateral sclerosis is a motor neuron disease, which causes damage to the body's motor neurons and is more common in men.

1. Primary lateral sclerosis selectively damages the corticospinal tract, leading to upper motor neuron paralysis of the limbs. The first symptom is symmetrical spastic weakness of both lower limbs, which progresses slowly and gradually affects the upper limbs, resulting in increased muscle tone of the limbs, lumbar hyperreflexia and pathological signs. There was no muscle atrophy, no fasciculations, and normal sensation.

2. Cause: Selective damage to the corticospinal cord, leading to functional deficits of upper motor neurons in the limbs. A motor neurone disease that mainly affects the corticospinal tract and presents with spastic paraplegia and normal sensation. This disease belongs to the category of impotence in traditional Chinese medicine, which is caused by wind and blood stasis blocking the tendons and veins, liver and kidney deficiency, and malnutrition of the tendons and veins. It is more common in men aged 31 to 60 years old; the onset is insidious and the progression is slow.

3. Symptoms: Spastic paraplegia: Symmetrical weakness and stiffness of both lower limbs, spastic gait when walking, gradually affecting both upper limbs. Generally, muscle tone is increased, tendon reflexes are hyperactive, which is more obvious in the lower limbs, and pathological reflexes are positive. In the late stage, urinary incontinence may occur. There was no muscle atrophy or fasciculations. Objective feelings are normal, but unconscious intelligence is changed.

4. Pay attention to a reasonable diet: In addition to the staple food, patients with primary lateral sclerosis should add eight-treasure porridge, longan meat porridge, sea cucumber porridge, and meat to nourish the spleen and kidneys, as well as meat to nourish the essence and blood. Usually, you should eat more vegetables such as bean sprouts, spinach, cabbage, radish, tomatoes, etc. I drink sweet spring water, lemon juice and other beverages, especially milk and breast enhancement are the best. It is advisable to eat more fruits such as hawthorn, jujube, oranges and so on.
