How does depression come about?

Depression is a mental illness, which should never be ignored, because it not only affects mental health, but also has an impact and harm on the patient's entire life. Depression is often caused by some social factors, and of course it may also be affected by genetic factors.

1. Psychosocial factors

In recent years, people have paid more and more attention to the importance of psychosocial factors in the occurrence, development, prevention and treatment of affective disorders, especially depression. Various major life events occur suddenly or persist for a long time, causing unpleasant emotional experiences. The stronger and more persistent the emotional experience, the greater its pathogenic effect. If this tension reaction is too intense or prolonged, exceeding the body's ability to regulate, pathological signs may occur. Chronic, long-term adverse circumstances are particularly evident in persistent, long-term depression.

2. Genetic factors

People have been studying the genetic predisposition of this disease for a long time. Since there are many methods for clinical genetic research, many results have been obtained from ancient times to the present, but the effectiveness of various methods is still worth discussing. Genetic epidemiological surveys of large sample populations show that the closer the blood relationship, the higher the probability of getting the disease. The probability of first-degree relatives suffering from the disease is much higher than that of other relatives, which is consistent with the general law of genetic diseases.

3. Biochemical factors

Most of these results come from animal pharmacology experiments, and many are based on acute test studies, which are not exactly the same as humans and chronic medication situations. In addition, there are also differences in research samples and methodologies.

4. Neuroendocrine research

Many endocrine diseases, such as hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism, Cushing's disease, etc., may be accompanied by emotional symptoms.
