Can floaters be treated with surgery?

There are many ways to treat floaters, and surgical treatment is certainly an option, but surgical treatment is mainly suitable for patients who cannot achieve effective treatment through traditional Chinese medicine and internal medicine treatment, so the treatment method should also be decided based on your actual situation.

(1) Surgical treatment

For those who cannot absorb traditional Chinese medicine or medical treatments, vitrectomy can be performed.

If vitreous hemorrhage does not absorb after 3-6 months of conservative treatment, vitrectomy should be performed. However, surgery should be performed promptly once retinal detachment is observed. To prevent amblyopia, children should generally undergo surgery as early as possible. Modern vitrectomy has made the treatment of some severe vitreous hemorrhages easier, safer, and more effective.

(2) Diet therapy

Golden cicada flower is sweet in taste and cold in nature. It has the effect of nourishing the liver and improving eyesight. It is suitable for floaters, cataracts, night blindness, blurred vision, etc.

Ingredients: 1 liang of golden cicada flowers, 2 liang of yam, 1 liang of wolfberry, 1 piece of lamb liver, and 5 candied dates.

Cooking method: 12 bowls of water and cook for 2 hours

(3) Alcohol therapy

Garlic red wine can effectively improve the condition of floaters and can be used as an auxiliary treatment.

(4) Tea therapy

Chamomile tea

9 grams of chamomile, 15 grams of wolfberry, 10 grams of cornus fruit, and 12 grams of plantain seed. Put it in a thermos, pour in half a bottle of boiling water, cover and simmer for about 20 minutes, and drink frequently instead of tea. Take 1 dose daily. It is mainly used to treat floaters caused by liver and kidney yin deficiency and liver fire inflammation. It is contraindicated for patients with rising damp-heat or internal accumulation of phlegm and dampness.

(5) Massage

This method must first rule out retinal holes and detachment, and a detailed examination by an ophthalmologist is required before massage.

Method: Lie on your back on the bed with your eyes closed. Use your thumb and index finger to rotate the eye sockets up and down and inward and outward 50 times each. Then use your index and middle fingers to make a scissors shape to massage the corners of your eyes, rotating inward and outward 50 times each. Finally, use your index and middle fingers together to massage the eyeballs with your eyes closed, rotating inward and outward 50 times each. The massage should be done at a level that is tolerable.
