Before autism test, you need to know these

Autism, also known as childhood autism, is a very puzzling disease. This disease is diagnosed late and is more common in males, but its onset is very early, mostly in infancy. This disease will widely affect the child's normal development in all aspects, especially the child's personal social aspects. There is currently no drug that can completely cure the disease. However, early self-diagnosis testing will help sick children a lot.

Basic diagnosis of autism:

1. Persistently demonstrates deficits in social communication and social interaction in a variety of settings;

Social disorders are often the most easily discovered symptoms of autistic patients. There is a Sally-Ann-Experiment, which may help us understand the source of social disorders in autistic patients:

Sally put a stone in the basket and left. After she left, Anne put Sally's stone in another basket.

At this time, ask the autistic child: In which basket will Sally look for her stone when she gets home?

The results showed that 16 out of 20 autistic children believed that Sally would go to Anne's basket to look for the stone. In other words, they could not understand Sally's "false belief" (the ball was in her basket) - they packaged their own views and pushed them onto Sally, thinking that Sally knew what had happened to her stone.

In the early stages of their development, autistic patients have difficulty distinguishing between self-perception and perception of others (lack of empathy), which largely leads to their social indifference - in the eyes of autistic patients, there is not much difference in the nature of people and objects.

2. Restricted, repetitive behaviors, interests, or activities.

When talking about autism, the first popular symbol that comes to mind is Raymond Babbitt, an autistic patient played by Dustin Hoffman in the movie "Rain Man". Raymond has an amazing memory. He can accurately tell the flight numbers, times, locations and causes of all major air crashes in aviation history. He can quickly count 246 toothpicks dropped on the restaurant floor and remember any phone number he has read in the phone book.

Restricted, repetitive behaviors, interests or activities are the source of the "Rain Man myth" - but Raymond is a high-functioning autism patient (High-functioning autism, abbreviated as HFA), with higher intelligence than other autistic patients (IQ greater than or equal to 70), and there are even real people like Raymond whose intelligence far exceeds that of normal people. However, this type of high-functioning autistic patients only accounts for a quarter of autistic patients - most autistic patients have severe intellectual disabilities [50% have moderate or above intellectual disabilities (IQ less than 50), and 25% have mild intellectual disabilities (IQ 50-69)].

People with autism often have a fixed life pattern and rigidly adhere to a certain order of doing things, such as a ritualized way of greeting, taking the same route or eating the same food every day. Once this is disrupted, they will be at a loss. It seems that only the most familiar environment can guarantee them safety. This also makes some people with autism far superior to ordinary people in certain abilities.

To diagnose autism, both of the above are essential - only the first one is social communication disorder.

Autism is often accompanied by sensory integration disorders, language disorders and other problems, but these are not used as diagnostic criteria. (High-functioning autism and Asperger's syndrome are no longer part of the standard system.
