What should you pay attention to when cleaning wounds with hydrogen peroxide?

Hydrogen peroxide is a common medicine. Most people use it to disinfect wounds, but there are still many things to pay attention to when using hydrogen peroxide. When using hydrogen peroxide to clean wounds, it depends on the severity of the skin damage. If the wound is small, it can be used directly for wiping. If it is a larger wound, it can be cleaned with hydrogen peroxide first and then other disinfectants can be used.

Hydrogen peroxide disinfection of deep wounds

The main ingredient is hydrogen peroxide solution. The concentration of hydrogen peroxide used for skin disinfection is low (equal to or less than 3%) and can be used to wipe the wounded surface of the skin to clean the wound and kill bacteria. When a wound appears on the skin, you can first clean the wound with hydrogen peroxide, and then use other skin disinfectants.

Use hydrogen peroxide with caution on minor wounds

The oxygen content in hydrogen peroxide is too high for blood. If hydrogen peroxide is applied to a small wound, it will reduce the body's ability to clean and repair physiological tissues. In addition, if the wound is too small, using hydrogen peroxide to clean it will cause certain stimulation to the nerve endings under the epidermis, causing unnecessary swelling around the wound, which is not conducive to skin healing. Therefore, if the wound is not large, it is best not to use hydrogen peroxide.

How to clean wounds with hydrogen peroxide

Use light salt water to clean the dirt on the wound. If there is no dirt, use clean water. Then use a sterilized cotton swab dipped in 3% medical hydrogen peroxide to wipe the wound. Do not wipe it repeatedly, as white foam will appear on the wound. Then wash off the foam with saline. For those with serious wounds, it is recommended to go to the hospital for treatment after simple disinfection.
