Choroid plexus cyst is a common disease at present. I believe most people must be confused. In fact, in the treatment of choroid plexus cyst, we must first understand the cause. Only by finding the root cause of the disease can we carry out corresponding treatment. Patients will learn that they have this disease during the supporting examinations in the mid-term stage of pregnancy. It may disappear with the development of the fetus, but some will accompany it for a long time. Causes of Choroid Plexus Cysts The choroid plexus is a structure rich in blood vessels. In the second trimester of pregnancy, choroid plexus cysts may be detected in some fetuses, but more than 90% of fetal choroid plexus cysts disappear after 26 weeks of pregnancy, and only a few show progressive enlargement. The cysts are often bilateral and are often located in the choroid plexus of the lateral ventricles. The fluid in the cyst is cerebrospinal fluid. A small number of fetuses with choroid plexus cysts have chromosomal abnormalities. Trisomy 18 is more common, but trisomy 21 may also cause choroid plexus cysts. In this case, further examination is recommended by chromosome and Down syndrome testing. Choroid plexus cyst refers to small cysts with a diameter of ≥3 mm in the choroid plexus of the lateral ventricle that are found during fetal ultrasound examination at 14 to 24 weeks of gestation. More than 90% of fetal choroid plexus cysts disappear after 26 weeks of gestation, and only a few show progressive enlargement. When a choroid plexus cyst is detected, it should be combined with other clinical data to further perform amniocentesis for amniotic fluid cell culture or umbilical cord puncture for umbilical blood culture to exclude chromosomal abnormalities such as trisomy 18 and trisomy 21. Choroid plexus cysts may also occur in normal fetuses, but most of them disappear after 26 weeks. If it does not disappear after 26 weeks and is bilateral, the baby should undergo a brain examination and a chromosome examination of the umbilical cord blood cells after birth. If it can disappear, there will be no compression and increased intracranial pressure, and the intelligence or other aspects after birth will not be affected by the "choroid plexus cyst". The main cause of choroid plexus cysts is that the production of cerebrospinal fluid is faster than the formation of the aqueduct system in the brain, resulting in a certain degree of cerebrospinal fluid circulation obstruction or blockage. Pregnant women can take Fushifu or continue to supplement folic acid for one month. Pregnant women are encouraged to eat more fresh fish, eat almonds twice a week (not too much each time), do not eat eggs, and can drink pure milk. Precautions If you experience symptoms of a choroid plexus cyst, don't panic; maintaining a positive attitude will help with treatment. I hope my article about choroid plexus cyst can be helpful to you. I wish you all a speedy recovery and freedom from the disease. |
