Radiotherapy for bone cancer

Radiation therapy can strongly affect the reproductive capacity of bone cancer cells. Radiation therapy can be used alone to treat bone cancer, such as Ewing sarcoma of bone, or as an adjuvant therapy before and after bone cancer surgery to control lesions and relieve pain, and reduce local recurrence rates.

Radiotherapy has certain indications and is mostly used to treat single lesions such as primary reticular cell sarcoma of bone, undifferentiated reticular cell sarcoma, multiple myeloma, and Ewing sarcoma, and can effectively control local lesions.

Radiotherapy can also be used after surgical treatment. For example, if the vertebral giant cell tumor cannot be completely removed, radiotherapy can be used to enhance the effect of treatment. Synovial sarcoma and chordoma of the sacrococcygeal region can also be treated with radiotherapy after surgical resection to prevent recurrence of the disease.

For patients with bone cancer who cannot undergo surgical resection, palliative radiotherapy can be performed, such as radiotherapy for hidden trunk osteosarcoma to control tumor growth. In addition, radiotherapy for bone metastases can also help relieve patients' pain and inhibit the growth of tumor cells to a certain extent.
