What should I do if black spots appear on the oral mucosa?

As the most frequently used organ in our lives, oral health can be said to directly affect our quality of life. However, the oral mucosa is also a relatively fragile organ, and it is easy to have problems, big or small. One of them is that some people will have black spots on their oral mucosa. What should they do at this time?

Melanoma plakia refers to melanin spots on the oral mucosa that are unrelated to racial melanin deposition, systemic diseases, or melanin deposition caused by exogenous substances, and the cause is unknown. Small milky white spots appear on the oral mucosa or merge into pieces, quite like milk curds. The white film covers the oral mucosa and is not easy to wipe off. It appears in small flakes at first, then gradually merges into large flakes, shaped like milk. It is a clinical manifestation of neonatal thrush.

1. Patchy white spots:

White or grayish white homogeneous hard plaques appear on the oral mucosa, with a dense texture, varying lesion shapes and areas, and slight elevations or unevenness. It is worth noting that there is no parallel relationship between the size of the lesion and the possibility of cancer. Sometimes cancer can occur even when the lesion is only the size of a grain of rice. Plaque-like lesions are often difficult to distinguish from white spots of Candida albicans by the naked eye, but the former are harder when touched. It is a clinical manifestation of oral leukoplakia.

2 Causes:

Poisoning caused by accidental ingestion or long-term contact with metals. In the past, metal salts such as bismuth, mercury, and gold were widely used to treat certain diseases, such as syphilis and rheumatoid arthritis. The therapeutic doses of the above-mentioned metal preparations are closer to the toxic doses, and there is a greater chance of side effects.

3 Mitigation methods:

Remove local irritants such as improving oral hygiene, banning smoking, treating diseased teeth, and limiting spicy and irritating foods.
