What are the symptoms of leaky gut?

The occurrence of intestinal leakage actually means that the patient's intestinal mucosa is damaged and obvious holes appear, which will seriously affect the patient's internal environment. Intestinal leakage is extremely harmful to the body, because substances in the intestines may flow out and threaten the health of other organs. Therefore, if patients experience severe abdominal pain, they should go to a regular hospital for examination in time.

What is Leaky Gut Syndrome?

In patients with leaky gut syndrome, the intestinal lining is damaged, resulting in permeable holes. This causes the contents of the intestines — yeast, toxins and waste — to begin pouring out into the rest of the body, causing a variety of symptoms.

According to Leo Garland, MD, mentor of the Integrative Medicine Foundation, leaky gut is a pathological manifestation of symptoms of many diseases. This explains why it can be difficult to diagnose, or why doctors may not consider it a diagnosis.

Andrew Weil, MD, says on his website that despite a lack of recognition from the medical community, there is growing evidence that leaky gut is "the result of intestinal tissue damage that reduces the ability of the intestine to protect its internal environment and filter out needed nutrients and other biological material."

What are the symptoms of leaky gut?

The result of leaky gut allowing intestinal substances to enter the bloodstream is that the liver is forced to work overtime to keep up with the detoxification process. When your liver can't keep up, your blood circulation and your immune system react. While your immune system and liver are busy dealing with harmful substances, your body's systems become inflamed because daily processes are neglected. This can lead to a host of problems, including: allergies, depression, eczema, hives, psoriasis, chronic fatigue, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), ulcerative colitis, and fibromyalgia.
