What diseases are neuralgia a symptom of?

Neurological diseases are an issue that is receiving more and more attention in modern life. Because the pressure of modern life is very high, many people have insufficient psychological endurance and often suffer mental breakdown under high pressure, which leads to neurological diseases. For example, neuralgia is a common symptom. Let's take a look at the symptoms of neuralgia.

1. Sciatica

Sciatica is a common disease. The most common is lumbar disc herniation. Others include spinal tuberculosis, arachnoiditis, intravertebral metastatic cancer, etc. In addition, sacroiliac arthritis and pelvic tumors compressing the nerves can also cause sciatica. Sciatica is pain that occurs where the sciatic nerve passes (i.e., lower back, buttocks, back of thigh, outer calf, and foot). The pain increases when the sciatic nerve is stretched, so the patient's affected lower limb is often flexed to relieve the pain. Sciatica can be treated with B vitamins, traditional Chinese medicine for relaxing muscles and activating blood circulation, as well as acupuncture, physical therapy and other methods. However, the fundamental way is to treat the primary disease that causes sciatica, which can be treated with traditional Chinese medicine.

2. Trigeminal neuralgia

In trigeminal neuralgia, pain in the second branch is more common, and the average age of patients is 40 to 50 years old. The patient experienced a sudden paroxysmal shooting pain on one side of the face, which lasted from a few seconds to more than ten seconds. The pain was described as burning and unbearable. During an attack, people often rub the painful side of their face with their hands in an attempt to relieve the pain. Due to frequent rubbing, the facial skin becomes rough and sometimes the eyebrows may fall off. There are intervals between attacks, and the length of the intervals varies. In mild cases, attacks may occur every few days or weeks, with longer intervals. The pain can be triggered by actions such as washing face, brushing teeth, and eating. Treatment generally involves intramuscular injection of vitamins to nourish the nerves, or surgical cutting of the nerves.

3. Intercostal neuralgia

Intercostal neuralgia can be caused by rib fractures, metastatic cancer of the thoracic spine, herpes zoster, etc. Caused by shingles, skin lesions can be seen in the painful area, with clusters of rashes and normal skin between the rashes. In severe cases, there may be exudation or redness and swelling. Therefore, when treating intercostal neuralgia, the main focus should be on treating the primary lesion, and secondly, pain treatment can be carried out to relieve local symptoms.
