Is thrush contagious?

Thrush is usually a disease that only children under two years old suffer from. There are no very obvious symptoms when the disease first occurs, so it is difficult to get very effective treatment in the first place. A small number of adults are also likely to suffer from this disease. It can be completely cured through medication or other targeted treatments, but it is best to adopt isolation treatment after it occurs. After all, this disease is contagious and may be transmitted to other people through the respiratory tract, so isolation measures must be taken.

Thrush, also known as oral thrush, can occur at any age, but is most common in infants under 2 years old. If incomplete treatment is present, the disease may recur. People can be infected with thrush through the digestive tract, through trauma to the skin, or even through the respiratory tract. Patients with thrush can also become a source of infection for others.

Related symptoms:

Thrush is a common oral disease in children. This disease is caused by the formation of white pseudomembranes in the mouth, which are sometimes as white as snow. So it is called snow mouth. Snow mouth disease is caused by Candida albicans, which is one of many microorganisms. It usually occurs in infants with unclean oral cavity and malnutrition, and can also occur in weak adults. Candida albicans is often found in the mouths of healthy children but does not cause disease.

Thrush is more common in newborns and children with chronic diarrhea, malnutrition, or long-term use of antibiotics and corticosteroids, as well as unhygienic nipples and eating utensils that allow mold to invade the oral mucosa. These children generally have poor body resistance. If oral care is not done properly, Candida albicans can easily invade and multiply in large numbers. White dot-like or flake-like membrane-like substances can be seen on the buccal mucosa, tongue, face, gums and palate on both sides. They are not easy to wipe off. If they are forcibly removed, a non-bleeding red wound can be seen underneath. Children with severe thrush have white snowflakes in their mouths, which block their throats and affect their breathing. The children become irritable and refuse to eat.
