Enlargement of the lateral ventricles is an ultrasonic sign during ultrasound examination. During the ultrasound examination, it is possible to diagnose whether the fetal nervous system is well developed. By examining some changes in the lateral ventricles, it is possible to understand if there is obvious widening of the lateral ventricles. Doctors generally recommend termination of pregnancy, because when such ultrasonic signs appear, the fetus often has chromosomal abnormalities or viruses. It increases the possibility of stillbirth and miscarriage. Even if the fetus is born, it may suffer from some serious diseases, especially obstruction of the child's cerebrospinal fluid circulation pathway, which is closely related to genetic abnormalities and heredity. Causes of fetal ventriculomegaly There are two main reasons for fetal ventriculomegaly, namely, abnormalities in the fetal central nervous system or abnormalities in other body systems. The specific causes of fetal lateral ventricle enlargement are: 1. Abnormalities in the fetal central nervous system: This may be caused by abnormal development of the fetal brain midline structure or local space occupying; 2. Abnormalities of other systems in the body: An intracranial manifestation of abnormalities of other systems in the body. The causative factors are chromosomal abnormalities, viral infections (such as cytomegalovirus infection, toxoplasmosis infection and syphilis infection), etc. Ventriculomegaly (VM) refers to the excessive accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid in the ventricular system, causing the ventricular system to expand, among which lateral ventricle enlargement is the most common. During prenatal ultrasound examination, the results showed that the width of the fetal lateral ventricle was greater than 10mm, which is called ventriculomegaly. What to eat when the fetus has enlarged lateral ventricles Pregnant mothers whose fetuses have enlarged lateral ventricles can just follow a normal diet. When the fetus is in a rapid growth period, the development of the fetal brain is sometimes faster than the aqueduct system in the brain. When the amount of cerebrospinal fluid produced in the brain is significantly greater than the circulation capacity of the aqueduct system, mild hydrocephalus will occur. However, this mild hydrocephalus will gradually disappear as the aqueduct system in the brain develops and improves. It is recommended to pay attention to rest and eat nutritiously. Therefore, if the widening of the fetal ventricles does not exceed one centimeter, there is no big problem. As the fetus develops, it will slowly absorb it. Just do regular prenatal check-ups and maintain a light and balanced diet. Pregnant mothers should not be too nervous or anxious so as not to affect the development of the fetus. |
