What are the treatments for cracked teeth

Tooth cracks may be a dental disease that many friends are not aware of. This crack is extremely harmful to the health of the teeth. Hidden cracks mean that there are cracks on the tooth plane, and the cracks on each tooth are different. Some cracks are long and severe, and may even cause the teeth to loosen and fall off. Tooth cracks need to be treated early, otherwise it will easily lead to bacterial erosion of the teeth. For cases of hidden cracked teeth, patients can actually choose the appropriate treatment location based on their own situation. If the hidden cracks are severe, tooth extraction may be required.

Causes of Cracked Tooth

1. The larger the incline of the tooth tip, the greater the horizontal force generated, and the greater the chance of hidden cracks.

2. The weak links in the tooth structure are susceptible factors for the occurrence of cracked teeth. These weak links not only have low crack resistance, but are also the areas where stress is concentrated when the teeth are subjected to normal occlusal forces.

3. Traumatic occlusal force. When pathological wear causes high and steep tooth cusps, the inclination of the tooth cusps also increases significantly. The horizontal component of force generated during normal occlusion also increases, forming traumatic occlusal force, causing the enamel plate at the bottom of the pit and fissure to deepen and widen toward the dentin. This is the beginning of hidden cracks. Under the continued action of occlusal force, the crack gradually deepens toward the pulp, so traumatic occlusal force is the cause of tooth cracks.

Cracked tooth treatment

1. For superficial fissures with no obvious symptoms and normal pulp vitality, occlusal adjustment treatment can be performed to reduce the lateral splitting force. Prevent the cracks from deepening; you can also prepare the cavity, grind off the cracks as much as possible, and then do preventive filling.

2. For patients with deeper cracks or existing pulp lesions, it is crucial to adjust the cusp bevel extensively during pulp treatment to completely remove the fracture-causing force on the affected tooth and to promptly restore it with a full crown after treatment. During the treatment of endodontic disease, the occlusal surface is perforated, which greatly reduces the crack's ability to withstand occlusal forces. Although the bite is lowered during treatment, the tooth is very likely to split from the crack due to chewing and other reasons during the treatment. Therefore, at the beginning of endodontic treatment, a ring can be bonded to protect the crown, and a full crown restoration should be performed in time after the endodontic treatment is completed.

How to prevent cracked teeth

To prevent tooth cracks, you should pay attention to the following in your daily life:

1. Do not chew hard objects with your teeth, such as metal bottle caps.

2. When chewing hard food such as bones, do not use force and chew slowly.

3. Middle-aged and elderly people should undergo regular oral examinations: If any tooth cusps are found to be too sharp or too steep, they can be appropriately adjusted and ground to eliminate them.

4. Prevent sports injuries: various accidents during daily sports, such as playing ball, cycling, running, etc.
