Can loose teeth be tightened?

Children love to play, so bumps and bruises are inevitable. If the teeth are hit due to external injuries, the teeth may become loose, which will make the children feel panic. Generally loose teeth can heal on their own, but if the external pressure is too great, it may become impossible to recover. If your teeth are injured due to external force, it is best to go to a professional dental hospital for examination. In addition to external force, loose teeth may also be caused by periodontal degeneration.

Why do healthy teeth become loose?

(1) Teeth can become loose if they are hit, fall, or bite too hard. This is because excessive external force damages the periodontal membrane, and the elastic fibers between the teeth and the periodontal membrane are damaged, causing the teeth to become loose.

(2) Loose teeth caused by periodontal disease. The periodontal ligament is subjected to chronic inflammatory stimulation for a long time, which causes the periodontal ligament fibers to gradually degenerate and be destroyed. When the periodontal tissues that support the teeth are gradually destroyed, the teeth will become loose.

(3) Periodontal degeneration can cause most teeth to become loose. Periodontal degeneration mostly occurs in young people. It is due to degenerative changes in periodontal tissues, destruction of periodontal fibers, and absorption of alveolar bone, which causes teeth to loosen and shift. Tooth loosening caused by periodontal degeneration first occurs in the upper and lower front teeth and the first molars. Due to tooth displacement, the originally neatly arranged teeth become sparse, the upper front teeth protrude outward, and gaps appear between the teeth. Although periodontal degeneration is relatively rare in clinical practice, it is very harmful and can often cause young people to lose all their teeth at an early age, so it should be paid attention to.

There are generally several ways to treat loose teeth:

1. For loose teeth caused by periodontal disease, if it is mild, it can be restored to normal by treating the periodontal disease; if it is moderately loose, while treating the periodontal disease, the loose teeth should be ligated and fixed together with the adjacent teeth to reduce the load on the loose teeth and prevent the loose teeth from getting worse. At this time, most of the loose teeth cannot be restored; if it is severe loose, it refers to tooth looseness III, that is, the teeth are obviously loose no matter up, down, left or right. At this time, the method of extracting the affected teeth is often used to avoid adding unnecessary burden to the adjacent teeth.

2. When loose teeth are caused by trauma, if the looseness is mild, you can take anti-inflammatory drugs. When the inflammation subsides, the teeth will automatically return to a stable state. If the looseness is severe or dislocated or shifted, the teeth should be repositioned, then ligated and fixed to the adjacent teeth, and anti-inflammatory drugs should be taken, oral hygiene should be maintained, and this tooth should not be used in the short term, etc. After 1 to 2 months, the tooth will return to normal.
