What causes warts?

Warts are actually what we call common warts. They seem painless and itchy on the surface, but it should be noted that many factors can cause these problems, such as common bacterial infections, lack of attention to hygiene, and contact with bacteria and viruses may lead to the occurrence of common warts. Current treatments include drug injection therapy and surgical treatment.

1. Bacterial infection

The pathogen is human papillomavirus. Damage to the skin and mucous membranes and abnormal cellular immune function are the direct factors for infection with this disease.

2. Environmental factors

Not paying attention to personal hygiene and public hygiene, and failing to disinfect hands in time after touching things touched by carriers.

Human papillomavirus enters the exposed basal cells through wounds. The basal cells that can divide are the storage site of viral DNA. Epithelial cells carrying viral DNA may not show any clinical symptoms and remain in a latent state. When the disease occurs, the skin at the lesion site will have thickening of the acanthosis layer, papilloma-like hyperplasia and hyperkeratosis, accompanied by incomplete keratinization.

3. Treatment of common warts

1. Polymyxin B injection: 2 mg, intramuscular injection, twice a week.

2. Local treatment: This disease is mainly treated locally, and various physical therapies are often used, such as carbon dioxide laser, high-frequency electricity, liquid nitrogen freezing, etc. Before treatment, pain and residual scars should be considered. If the disease occurs in the joints, the impact on joint movement should be considered. Be careful not to damage nerves during cryotherapy. Cryotherapy of skin lesions on children's elbows and knees can easily leave scars, so be moderate during treatment.

Non-surgical treatment: A variety of chemical drugs can be used locally, such as podophyllum resin, 20% salicylic acid collodion, 5% fluorouracil, 30% iodic acid glacial, pure carbolic acid, Brucea javanica, alkali powder (equal amounts of quicklime and edible alkali), etc.

Apply 3% phthalamide cream or 3% phthalamide dimethyl sulfoxide. You can also use 0.7% cantharidin plus an equal amount of collodion, apply it once every other day, or 20% to 40% iodine glycoside (herpes net) cream for external use.
