Do you know the correct way to disinfect a thermometer?

Thermometers are a necessity for every family, but some people are at a loss when it comes to how to disinfect thermometers. Research has found that the correct method is to soak the thermometer in 1% peracetic acid solution for five minutes, then soak it in another identical solution for half an hour, take it out, wash it with cold water and wipe it with sterilized gauze, and finally shake the thermometer to below 35 degrees and place it in a clean box.

1. Thermometer measurement method

Wipe the sterilized thermometer dry with sterilized gauze and check whether the mercury column is below 35 degrees. There are two measurement methods:

1. Oral measurement method: Place the mercury end of the thermometer obliquely under the tongue, and ask the person to close his mouth and breathe through his nose. Do not bite the thermometer with his teeth. Take it out after 3 minutes, wipe it clean, check the degree clearly, and record the value.

2. Axillary measurement method: unbutton your clothes, wipe one armpit dry, place the mercury end of the thermometer deep in the armpit close to the skin, flex the fold over the chest, clamp the thermometer, take it out after 5 minutes, check the reading, and record the value. Normal value range: oral humidity is 36.3 degrees - 37.3 degrees, armpit humidity is 36 degrees - 37 degrees. If you drink hot drinks, do strenuous exercise, or get emotionally excited, wait 30 minutes before measuring.

3. Mercury thermometer is a contact thermometer, and its accuracy in measuring body temperature is relatively stable.

2. Thermometer disinfection method

First soak it in 1% peracetic acid solution, take it out after 5 minutes, wipe it dry and put it in another container containing 1% peracetic acid solution and soak it for half an hour, then rinse it with cold boiled water, wipe it dry with sterilized gauze, shake the mercury column to below 35 degrees, and put it in a clean box for use. The thermometer and solution container should be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected once a week.

3. Thermometer disinfection steps

1. Rinse with clean water after measuring body temperature.

2. Soak in 75% alcohol or 1:500 effervescent tablet solution for 5 minutes.

3. Take 75% alcohol or 1:500 effervescent tablet solution and soak for 30 minutes.

4. Soak and clean with cold boiled water.

5. Put it in the cleaning box for next use.
