Usage and function of povidone-iodine solution

Povidone-iodine solution is a broad-spectrum disinfectant wash that can kill some fungi, bacteria and viruses on the skin and mucous membranes. It is effective in treating female cervical erosion, cervicitis and vaginitis. It has a certain therapeutic effect on some unexplained infections or inflammations of unknown causes. However, we must also understand its side effects. If used excessively, it may cause goiter in the fetus.

Usage and Effect

1. Compound PVP-Ⅰ is a new type of highly effective disinfectant and preservative. A 0.7% to 10% solution can release 1.8 to 24 ppm of free iodine in water, which kills microorganisms through the latter's oxidation effect. Its effect on killing bacteria is better than that of Xianbitai, and it has a certain killing effect on bacterial spores. This drug has a significant killing effect on Candida albicans, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, etc.; the sterilization time for Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Candida albicans is similar to that of the compound iodine solution and iodine tincture of the same concentration, but its toxicity is only 1/4 to 1/9 of that. Compound PVP-Ⅰ has no toxic side effects, is low in price, has a protective function for mucous membranes and skin, and its anti-STD effect is significantly better than that of Jieryin and potassium permanganate aqueous solution.

2. Iodine is gradually released in the solvent, playing a slow-release role to maintain the bactericidal power for a longer period of time. Its powerful bactericidal mechanism is to oxidize the active groups of pathogen protoplasmic proteins and combine with the amino groups of proteins to denature them, thereby effectively killing pathogens such as bacteria, spores, fungi, viruses and protozoa. 4. It works by gradually decomposing free iodine. 80%-90% of the bound iodine can be depolymerized into free iodine, which can directly denature and precipitate the proteins in the pathogens, causing the pathogen cells to die, thereby achieving the purpose of efficient disinfection and sterilization. It is characterized by strong bactericidal power, low toxicity, and is a broad-spectrum bactericide that can kill viruses, bacteria, spores, fungi and protozoa. It has a strong killing effect on Staphylococcus aureus, gonococci, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Treponema pallidum, hepatitis B virus, HIV, Trichomonas vaginalis, etc.

5. External use may cause skin allergic reactions and is irritating to the skin and mucous membranes. Use on severely burned or large areas of exfoliated skin may cause systemic adverse reactions, such as metabolic acidosis, hypernatremia and renal damage. It is not suitable for topical application in patients who are allergic to iodine or have a burn area greater than 20%. It is not suitable for patients with non-toxic colloid thyroid adenoma. Pregnant women and newborns should be used with caution when using on large areas. Not recommended for children under 4 years old.

6. It has a wide bactericidal spectrum, strong bactericidal power, and can directly kill bacteria, fungi, viruses, spores and protozoa. The sterilization speed is fast, most bacteria can be killed within 30 seconds, and 5 minutes is enough to kill some bacteria. 7. This product is a highly effective gynecological bactericidal disinfectant. Its pH value is similar to that of the vagina and is mild. After dilution (warm water) according to the instructions, it can reach 300ppm of effective iodine, which is 10-20 times higher than the bactericidal concentration. After flushing, it can effectively kill various pathogenic microorganisms in the body.
