The dangers of washing socks in a washing machine

In modern society, washing machines should be a necessary household appliance for every household. With the development of technology, washing machines are becoming more and more advanced. Now, to wash clothes with a washing machine, you only need to put the clothes in, and the rest is all automatic, which is very convenient and fast. However, this also faces some problems. Some people are unwilling to sort their clothes for the sake of convenience. Some even use washing machines to wash socks, which is harmful. Let me introduce the harms below.

Socks are most likely to carry fungi. If they are washed in a washing machine, they may contaminate the washing machine and other clothes. Clothes are worn close to the body and once contaminated by microorganisms in the washing machine, they can easily cause harm to the human body. So don't wash your socks in the washing machine.

How to wash socks scientifically ?

Ordinary cotton socks should be washed and changed frequently. After changing them, soak them in clean water for about 2 hours, then rub them with soap and hot water to make the dirt fall off easily.

When washing pure silk stockings, artificial silk stockings, nylon stockings, etc., they should be placed in soapy water or synthetic detergent below 40°C and gently rubbed. Avoid rubbing hard. After washing, socks should be dried in the shade and not exposed to the sun or fire.

When washing wool socks, you should first cut the neutral soap with a low alkali content into soap slices, put them into hot water to dissolve, wait for the water to cool down, then put the socks in, soak them for a while, and then gently rub them with your hands.

Especially for cleaning white socks, first rub the socks in clean water for a few times without adding any detergent, then wring them dry, apply toothpaste on the dirtiest and most difficult to clean parts, apply it evenly, and then let it sit for at least 5 minutes. Next, you can easily wash off the dirt with soap.

What clothes can't be washed in the washing machine?

1. Silk clothes cannot be washed in a washing machine

If silk clothes get dirty, you can put them in cold water and detergent and rub them repeatedly by hand. They should not be washed in a washing machine because silk clothes are thin and soft and have poor abrasion resistance. They are very easy to pilling when washed in a high-speed washing tub, and may even form many pillings on the surface, which is unsightly when worn after drying.

2. Clothing with silk inlays cannot be washed in a washing machine

Do not use washing machine to wash and dry, do not rub hard, and do not wring it. It should only be soaked in a neutral soap solution or synthetic detergent at about 35 degrees. After soaking thoroughly, turn it over with your hands several times. After washing off the dirt, rinse it with clean water, hang it on a hanger, and let it drip dry naturally.

3. Wool clothes cannot be washed in a washing machine

Many parts of woolen clothes are sewn with needle and fiber, and the lining cloths are mostly cotton and linen fabrics. When they rotate and tumble in the washing tub, they will be deformed due to uneven shrinkage after absorbing water, which will affect their appearance and reduce their fastness. Therefore, they should not be washed in the washing tub, but dry-cleaned instead.

4. Work clothes stained with gasoline cannot be washed in a washing machine

Because gasoline is flammable. It is explosive and not only pollutes and corrodes the washing machine after spreading, but it may also cause an explosion due to sparks in the running washing machine. Therefore, never wash it in a washing machine.

How to wash socks, underwear and other small items in a washing machine:

When washing smaller items such as scarves, socks, gloves, underwear, etc., you should first put them into a special laundry bag and then put them in the washing machine. Of course, high-end clothing and clothing with metal decorations can also be put into the laundry bag. If you use a fully automatic washing machine, you should put in at least 2 or 3 pieces of clothing (laundry bags). The principle of automatic washing machines is the friction or collision between clothes. If there are too few clothes, it will not only be difficult to wash them clean but the machine will also experience centrifugal phenomenon (shaking).
