Do you know the difference between vitiligo and anemic nevus?

Vitiligo and anemic nevus are two very common diseases in daily life, but because they have many similarities, it is easy for people to confuse them. In fact, there are many differences between vitiligo and anemic nevus in terms of symptom manifestations, causes of the disease, main characteristics, common sites and treatment methods. Therefore, as long as you understand them carefully, you can easily distinguish the differences between the two and prescribe the right medicine to better treat the disease.

1. Vitiligo

Vitiligo is a complete loss of skin pigmentation, appearing as porcelain white spots. The white spots vary in size and shape, with clear boundaries and increased pigmentation at the edges. whereas anemic nevus is a localized white spot that can be single or multiple. The white spots are mostly round or oval in shape, with clear or unclear edges.

2. Anemic nevus

The main characteristics of anemic nevus and the key points to distinguish it from vitiligo are: when rubbing the white spot with your hand, the anemic nevus does not become red or red, while the surrounding normal skin turns red. Vitiligo is caused by the vascular dysfunction in the skin lesion area.

It is normal, but friction or patting will cause local congestion and redness of the affected area.

In addition, when a glass slide is used to press the anemic nevus and the adjacent normal skin, the white spot and the normal skin both appear white, and their colors are difficult to distinguish, but this phenomenon does not occur in vitiligo.

Anemic nevus is a congenital disease with localized vascular developmental defects. The vascular structure in the affected area is normal but the function is defective. The blood vessels are more sensitive to catecholamines and are in a contracted state, making the skin pale white. The skin can return to normal after local injection of sympathetic nerve blockers. However, when drugs such as acetylcholine and histamine are injected into the skin, normal skin reactions such as vasodilation cannot be produced.

3. The difference between the two

Anemic nevus: a localized hypopigmented spot rather than depigmentation. The disease occurs since childhood and has no tendency to expand. When the skin lesions are rubbed vigorously, the local area does not turn red, while the surrounding normal skin turns red.

Vitiligo:

1. Irregular pure white patches of varying sizes, single or multiple, appear on the hair, face, trunk, limbs and other parts of the body. The area of the white patches gradually expands and the number increases.

2. The boundaries of the white spots are clear, the hair inside the spots is also white, the surface is smooth, there is no scale or scab, and the sensory and secretory functions are normal.

3. Vitiligo is sensitive to sunlight and will turn red when exposed to the sun.
